S4 470cc Injector Performance
I flow tested and checked the spray pattern of my injectors at school the other day.
The machine had 3 RPM settings; 600, 2400, and 7200; coupled with 3 Duration settings; 3ms, 6ms, and 12ms. I don't know the firing rate of the machine, I'm guessing that it fires 600 times a minute for 600RPM. And for each fire, the injector is held open for .003 sec. on the 3ms setting.
But if that were true, then @7200 RPM, it would fire 1 time, every .0083 sec. (8.3ms) How could the duration be .012 sec. (12ms)?
Something is wrong with how I'm figuring this, so If anyone knows for sure, please chime in.
One more thing to note about the figures I got, for some reason, the machine did not pulse the injectors at the 7200/6ms setting, it sounded as if it was held open, and the numbers show this. Either the machine didn't work at that setting, or the injectors cannot operate at that setting.
Another thing to note on these original data figures is that the flow numbers are in CC's and the test was run for 20sec. Except for 600/12ms and 600/6ms which was run for 40 sec., and 600/3ms was run for 60 sec. Below the original data I have calculated all values as if they were run for 60 sec. (20sec run * 3 = 60 sec. flow; 40 sec run * 1.5 = 60 sec. flow)
(EDIT: The charts are organized while writing the post, but once posted, all the spaces are ignored. Makes it hard to read, but it's all in order.)

6 ms @ 600 RPM 52.5 52.5 52.5 49.5
3 ms @ 600 RPM 38 38 36 35
My S2 injector flows bad compared to S1, and both Secondaries flow less than my Primaries.
In the FSM, the injectors are rated for 111-118cc/15 sec., or 444-472cc/min.
If the numbers for 7200/6ms represent total flow capacity, they fall far short of the FSM specs.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Spray Pattern:
Ideally, the spray pattern should look like an even circle, with even fuel spray within the entire circle.
Mine were not so perfect, 3ms, and 6 ms @2400rpm
P1: Cresent moon with a small spray dot cradled in the crecent
P2: Wider than the rest, flower shaped, like 7 streams, spraying wide.
S1: Best flow pattern, perfect circle.
S2: Terrible, 3 small circles @ 6ms, and 6-7 smaller circles at 3ms.
------------------------------------------------------------
I ran the cleaning process for a half hour on various durations and rpm and it didn't do a thing for the patterns. I'm gonna try the 120min. timer and leave it at a very rough setting possibly to knock something loose.
If there is anyone with injector cleaning experience, how did you clean yours?

CruzinPerformance has some webpages on what they do with injectors.

http://www.cruzinperformance.com/injsteps.html <-- detailed cleaning steps
The big trick seems to be the ultrasonic tank & the reverse flow flushing.
