It"s Alive!!!!!!

ok, in my first post I couldn't get my 87 RX7 started, I did the long process of unflooding it, and it started! The car puffed a lot of smoke for about 10 minutes and then quit.

Here's my next question, The idle is jumping from 1100-1500, up and down, up and down. What could be causing the idle not to smooth out? Could it be that there's a few cracks in the exhaust? I think that's why it's running rough, but could it cause the idle to jump like this?
Thanks in advance

Mike

That could be alot of things ... timing, fouled plugs, dirty fuel injectors... but usally its a vacuum leak.

crack in the exhaust wouldn't cause it.. Your TPS could be set wrong..

check compression

well, the cracks are actually holes. Where is the adjustment for the TPS?

(office space)and if you could get those TPS reports to me, that would be just great, mmmkay?(office space)

here's the car right after it first started

Damn I remember when my GTU smoked like that. I would say you have a vacum leak. Take some ether starting fluid and spray it in your engine bay, not the intake but the engine bay. If the car's idle jumps up or the car just about dies, you have a vacumm leak. Find the hose and replace it. I would say just replace all of them anyways. It looks better that way.

I've been checking vacuum lines for 3 days now. I can't find a leak anywhere

Dude!!! I had my '90 GXL smoking like that last year and it was an oil seal (read rebuild). I did not have any rough idle - just lots of smoke.

No. The car SHOULD do this when cold. It goes like this: 3K rpms for about 15 secs, then 1200-1500 rpms for about 3 minutes (or at least until it gets "Warm"), then normal idle at 750-800rpms...

no, it was mostly the transmission fluid in the bottom spark plug holes. It was flooding out pretty bad. It stopped smoking about 20 minutes later. Anybody have a front bumper cover for sale?
