Question Rx8 Shift lever in S4 tII

This could be a really dumb question... but here it goes.

I currently have some sort of short throw shifter in my S4 TII and I hate it. It's too stiff for my liking. I considered trading down to the factory lever, but that throw is too long. I have an Rx8 rolling chassis sitting in my garage, and if you ask me, the throw is perfect.

Before I go through the trouble, has anybody here tried swapping out the shift lever from an Rx8 yet?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

It certainly will not just drop right in (and if it did, it'd have the same throw as the stocker).

I'd bet the stiffness you have with your current short throw is down to the bushings...either in bad condition or carelessly shimmed.

I called Mazdatrix a little bit ago and they told me just that pretty much. Nice guy too! He recommended pulling the bottom spacer to start. I'm going to give that a try tonight.
Thanks!

I pulled the lever and found that the housing was dry. I dropped some 80w90 Amsoil in there and threw some bearing grease on the ball. It feels much better.
Cheers!

the rx8 shifter is a bit different, even if you cut the cup housing off it i doubt it would work even after mutilating it by grinding the centering pin off it.
