91 Vert 2yr No Start Flooded
From an earlier post about popup headlights and cross-wiring a battery, https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...arity-1102713/ my Vert wouldn't start.
I was working in CA for the past 3yrs and finally returned to the East Coast. The car is in NY and I went home this weekend for the 1st time since I left. Upon my arrival, I was determined to get the car running again within a fast amount of time after sitting for 2yrs.
The battery was maintained on a battery tender (Deltran's Battery Tender) for the duration of the car's dormancy.
With the battery installed in the FC, I cranked the car. It sounded strong but wouldn't start. I also smelled some gas leaking. A quick inspection noted the fuel line to the motor had a leak. Previously, I installed a fuel pressure gauge to monitor because the fuel pump died 3yrs ago. So, fuel line tightened and verified good fuel pressure. The most likely problem was a flooded engine.
I removed the spark plugs and noted a wet L2 plug on the aft housing. The L1 plug was less damp. All plugs were de-fouled and cleaned. I followed standard de-flooding procedures, added 2-cycle oil then reinstalled the plugs. The car started on the 2nd crank!
The car pushed out some grey-ish smoke along with extra stuff. The extra stuff happened to be rust flakes harboring in the exhaust pipes. The outside sea air on Long Island has begun to take its toll. Shortly, she will be moved to VA where more attention will be given to her. For now, she is purring like a kitten again.
So the funny part about the story is that it took me roughly 1.5hrs to get the car running again after sitting for roughly 2yrs without starting and a flooded engine. Friends and family were shocked to see it run again!
Hope that you enjoyed reading this story!

clokker & misterstyx, oh so true. My audience is not the most mechanically inclined so they believe the car runs on voodoo; especially when they see feathers scattered around the car! lol

Reminds me of the Cayman episode of Wheeler Dealers (a show I hate ferociously but watch religiously)...guy is told by a few shops his Tiptronic is bad, lets car sit and finally sells at a loss. Edd China changes the trans oil and filter and naturally, "All fixed!"*.
All I could think was what kind of morons didn't try the obvious, easiest, cheapest fix FIRST and the owner deserved to lose his car.
*This sort of simple fix seems to work far more often on the show than in real life.
"Yes Mike, the Jaguar V-12 looked bad, what with the exposed pistons and all, but turns out, all it needed was this one cotter pin and she's good as new!".

Just jaw dropped lol yea he didn't deserve the car. Been sitting under pine tree in his yard for 2+ years. Paint is shot, literally leafs and SAP ate through paint and flat spots on tires from sitting so long, exhaust rusted out with one muffler falling off. So yea glad I was able to save this FC
