I was wondering if it is a good idea to drive a rx7 in snow?

I don't think it is a good idea, but it is possible. If you have to drive your RX in the winter get the proper tires and don't horse around. I drove my T2 in the snow yesterday with summer tires and as soon as I hit boost the car wanted to spin out. Being that I don't have a different vehicle, and I haven't gotten snow tires yet I had to drove it like it was.

no they are not fun if you dont have snow tires, like to spin around on you. but if you have snow tires, they are no worse then any other rear wheel drive car. just go slow and steady and drive it like its bus you will be fine.

dude I would hate it if i had to go to work and saw that! I think you would need a plow to get anywhere! Yea I hate driving the 7 in snow in the south and hills, even if you have snow tires the hills wont let you get anywhere.

I just got my first experience on ice with my rx7........scary.....
It was just a small patch of ice. I drove over it and the back started to sweve, but once it hit dry land again it was fine, and it chirped a little.

But then again, my rear diff is welded....so I guess its going to be alittle harder in the snow then.

You can drive ok in one. It is far from idea thou. Light weight makes for bad traction. Low clearance makes getting stuck in the deeper stuff easy. All in all I got by just fine for 5 winters. The worst part is if they salt the roads, your will be able to watch the rust spread.

You know it.
I got a few rust spots under, but took care of that. It was all caused by snow/salt:calcium.

Hey man, I thought you wern't going to get the rx7? anyhow they arn't that bad. I've never had a different car other than an rx7 til last year so i've always driven them in the snow. It isn't that bad at all. The rx7 is one of the msot predictable cars around, you will know when to take it easy. They arn't the best in the snow but it can be done with out too much difficulty.

ok heres how i see it you could
buy a good set of snow tires + steel wheels to put them on and still have a pretty crappy car for driving in the snow plus youre getting road salt all over your rx-7 and risking some serious rust

alternative:
spend that money (plus however much extra you feel necessary) on a decent winter beater this way
-you have a better DD than the seven
-you keep miles off your seven
-less rust on the seven
-safer winter car
-lower insurance (list the winter car as your daily and seven as weekend)

my personal reccomendation: old classic saab 900, they run forever, comfortable as hell, and excellent in the snow

i have driven my na for a few winters up in calgary, the car is not as bad as you would think. BUT NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THE RX7 FOR THE WINTER!!! i would go and get an old audi 4000 or 5000, they are great cars.
you will regret having to fix all the rust on the car, and what if some dumb a$$ in a suv hits you? then you are out of a rx7 and you may have been hurt.

this reminds me of the first time i can ever remember seeing a t2. I was 14 or 15 in breckenridge colorado, guy was drifting (when drifting first really started here) in a parking lot... Thats what sparked my interest in rx-7s

The only other guy that owned my 7 used to drive during the winter and didn't have any problems. Last year I drove it about 5 times in snow and it was easy, even better than my '93 accord. It was most likely because of the LSD though (GXL) it even made it up a steep hill with bald tire.

it'll act like any other rwd car in the snow, just dont drive like your speedracer and you'll be fine.
