Rx7 Too Low

HI! I just got my first car, a 1987 RX7! I dont know anything about it, but the exhaust drags on the ground all the time b/c the car is too low! Is there anyway to get these cars higher? My friend with a truck told me to get a lift kit!

I am a girl, so be VERY specific, please!

Also, how would I put on mudflaps? I don't like getting the car dirty! It is my new baby!

I named it "cuddles"!

Please measure from the lower most portion of front bumper to ground. What is that?

Is the exhaust properly attached to the car?

Your exhaust is dragging?!? Is it just the exhaust, or is the whole car bottoming out? Important info there-

If it's just the exhaust, then something on it is broken. Take it to a good exhaust shop, and get it fixed-

If the whole car is bottoming out, you either have some very very bad shocks/springs, or someone lowered it perviously, OR, you're driving in places a 7 should never go- Me thinks we need a bit more info on when/where the bottoming out happens-

The RX7 is a pretty low car, it's certianly not low enough stock to cause problems (around here anywhere, and we have 3" deep potholes).

Anyway, congrats on the car- take care of her, and she'll take care of you-

OK, the rear bumper is seven inches from the ground!
I dont drive over curbs (It isn't a monster truck), the exhaust just rests on the ground all the time!

I really love the car, but the dragging makes sparks and my friends make fun of me! It also sounds really bad and really loud.

My brother said he will just kick the mufflers off to fix it for now. Is that OK?

Your car is too low. Take it to a shop and prepare for a big bill.

Mudflaps would ba available at walmart...
Planning on going 4x4ing?

I think the rubber donuts that the mufflers hang from are broken or missing. Your exhaust might be warped now from hanging by its own weight without support.

Get under the car and take a look (or get your brother to) on the mufflers you should see these hooks and these black rubber donuts connecting them to hooks on the underside of the car.

What is the joke?
Its done this since I got the car yesterday. I need to get it fixed, and I don't really want my brother kicking my car.
Has no one had this problem before?

It sounds like he may be right about the donuts being missing. 7" from the ground does seem low, but not ridiciouly so. Get the exhaust fixed properly (kick your brother if he tries to kick the car). Then see how it goes. FWIW, don't let anyone charge you more then 200-250 for exhaust repairs.

The springs might be sagging. Over time the springs sag.. I reccommend putting in some stiffer springs. Or new stock springs

Nekked pics?

If your bumper is 7 inches from the ground you will need new springs...stock ones should do fine! Also your exhaust might be to old and have holes in it..I'd suggest buying new exhuast from www.corksport.com or www.rx7.com. Also take a few pictures of "cuddles" and you lets see what you're dealing with

Good idea with the pics, I think we can all help her more if we got pics.

I bought mine from someone who cut the stock springs, and damn that thing is low! But not low enough so the exhaust drags, yeah, I agree that the hangers might be broken, or missing. Even on cut springs, I don't think your exhaust will drag on the ground with hangers, so I think the hangers are gone, period.

What kind of shocks and springs are on the car? What kind of muffler is it?

I don't care if you are a girl. Worthiness of owning an RX-7 requires knowlege of your car's mods.

I named it cuddles b/c it is a white car, and the seats kind of hug you. It feels like you're cuddling!

I am going to go take it to a private RX-7 mechanic tomorrow and see what he says.

I will try to get pics for all you guys.

I went out to look at what the springs were, but the tires are up too far and I can't see the springs.

My brother made fun of me for wanting mudflaps. Do they look bad or something?

I told you I was a girl b/c guys tend to have more sympathy for girls who are stupid with their cars. You guys always make fun of each other so badly!

I am really looking forward to getting the exhaust fixed! It is so loud, I can't even hear the radio!
