RX7 lesson 3: "E" means....

EMPTY!
Not "the dummy light" will come on shortly.
Not "you'd better start looking for a gas station".
Not "you have 1 needle's width of gas left".
Just empty.

I still love the car after 5 weeks of ownership, but I have to admit I was little miffed when the sputtering started on the freeway about 1.5 miles from the nearest exit & gas. The RX gods were smiling on me though; after about 50 feet of pushing up hill ( I'd coasted over a mile of the 1.5 & thought if I could get it to the top of the rise 12 o'clock & 150 feet I'd push it downhill to the station 1/4 mile away...ah, no.), a nice Native American couple in a pickup drove me to the station & back to the car.

All's well that ends well; the adventure continues.

I must say, that is pretty funny! Glad to see we learned a lesson. Be careful though...you could blow an apex seal doing that, I'm sure!!

As soonas my gas light comes on, I can fill the tank to it's capacity. Thanks Mazda for giving us that extra little bit of warning!!

you shouldn't let the tank get below a 1/4 anyways. bad for the the fuel pump.

Yeah I found that out the hard way also. I Had me 90 GTU a week and didn't know that the didn't work. I had to call a friend to bring me some gas since I was only about two miles away form his house. That was fun

Roger on the fuel pump, I just heard that from one of my car-guy buddies. So there "is" a fuel dummy light? mines broken then....90 vert.

It was pretty funny in hind-sight.

Yeah, a gas light should come on in the idiot cluster at about one line left. It starts out dim, then gets brighter as the need for fuel becomes more urgent. I rarely ever go under 1/4 tank.

My gas light comes when it's below the E line.
