rusty

My radiator is severely rusty. The water in it is rust colored, and I have to change it at least once a week. Will this hurt my engine, or what could happen?

You need to do a radiator/cooland system flush.

S4 or S5 (asking for temp gauge reasons?, I wouldn't want to run all that crummy water past the coolant seals all the time. You should probably do something about this, you can get a stock rad cheap.

I use a bottle of vinegar to clean cooling systems. After that I flush again with a healthy dose of a Bicarbonate of soda (aka) Baking soda and water. I WILL NOT be responsible for recommending this next trick even though it has worked for me before. I only used it on an iron piston engine as well. I had a horrible cooling system in my old truck. I used about 10 ounces of muriatic acid in the cooling system to flush it out. That got it sparkling clean in an afternoon. Then I gave it the "Bicarb of soda" flush. Keep in mind Muriatic acid will eat up many non-ferrous metals. It does not harm rubber though. One other thing about the acid. DO NOT get it on your skin! If you do, was it off with baking soda water before you feel it burning. The vinegar trick seems to work better than the flush kits and it's pretty safe since it's mildly acidic. I have left it in for a day or so before with no problems. Once you get it all cleaned out real good, use a quality antifreeze and distilled water only. I have heard you should never use "Dexcool" in the RX-7, it supposedly eats up the coolant seals.
