Question Rust Prevention

Hello all. Long time no see. Just wondered if any of you guys underseal your FC's as they salt and grit the roads here in winter and it pretty much dissolves most cars away. What do you guys use and how do YOU apply it?

I think lots of people here don't even drive their 7's with snow and salt on the ground. I live in the South so we have snow and salt about 4 days a year.

you can buy rubberized undercoating in a spray can..put the car on jackstands, take all 4 wheels off, cover the brakes and suspension components, take some masking tape and masking paper and cover the paint with it so you dont get overspray(usually around wheel wells, fenders, 1/4 panels)..shake the can for a few minutes(make sure the can is room temp)..spray the backside of the pinchwelds in each wheel well...as well as any other area rust might occur

rust usually occurs because salt is spread on the roads and then you drive over it which slings salt and salt water all over the inside of your wheel wells..then the salt sits inside the wheels wells causing rust because the salt will eat through paint and metal if allowed to sit...rubberized undercoating will prevent rust if applied to the right area's...

Yeah. That's what i thought. Anyone here use a specific product? I have two 5 litre cans of waxoyl, but it's pretty old and has been sitting in my garage for a while. The can's have gone rusty (on the outside at least).

go to your automotive parts store...napa, pepboys, autozone..etc etc..look for a spray can that says rubberized undercoating on it..or jusrt ask someone that works there..ive used this stuff many times..its messy as hell but works awesome..also...wear a respirator and some kind of eye protection...it stinks like hell and burns when it gets in your eyes...its like tar.

I would add, don't spray it on bolts and stuff on your suspension/brake components. I've had a car in the past that had undercoating spray all over the bottom, made it more difficult to work on. It gummed up all the bolts, so removing suspension stuff was a pain.

Once Rust has started, all those MIRACLE products you guys are touting will just seal the rust in, allowing it to fester under the undercoating.

what are you talking about?..he asked what to use to prevent rust...nobody mentioned any "miracle products"..i replied assuming he didnt have rust yet and didnt want any in the future...your assuming he has rust and wants it to disappear by spraying "miracle products" on it
