Running more boost on stock turbo

i have a 1988 rx7 t2 and I'm wanting to run Alittle more boost on my stock turbo, I'm pushing about 5psi right now , I also have a fcd which I was told allows you to trick the ecu into running more boost, I'm wanting to hit around 8 or 9 psi, what all would I need to but to make it run a that much boost and make it reliable as its my daily driver

1988 t2, 72000 miles, greddy blow off, koyo rad, electric fan, fcd, boost gauge, 3 inch downpipe to a 3 inch exhaust all the way to the back and that's all the mods I can think of as of now

you need some kind of boost controller....but i'd recommend you have some way to tune fuel...and larger secondary injectors before you start turning up the boost

That alone should put you over 5psi...I installed my racing beat Rev ii and was hitting fuel cut before I installed the fcd

and a wideband, along with a spare motor sitting in the garage.

do you have a cat? stock airbox? if no, i'm kinda stumped as to why you aren't getting creep with the 3" single exhaust.

but see the issue i am having is you want a reliable 8-9psi? no such thing with a stock ECU and FCD defeat, one quick overboost and your motor will make a nice coffee table. upgrade your injectors/fuel pump, install a standalone and tune it to handle 12psi and set boost cut to 10psi, yep then it will be reliable.

research, unless you like replacing engines.

mazda was kinda funny like that, they actually had a fairly reliable system in place.. knowing the limitations of it and how unreliable it would become once you started pushing more.

i do have a cat on the car, it looks like a racing beat highflow cat and i do not have the stock air box, i have an aftermarket intake coming off my turbo, and i looked at my boost guage and it shows i make 6psi

racing beat doesn't sell any cats, so it'd have to be a presilencer. the TID is restricting airflow now at this point but i'm still rather surprised it isn't already creeping to stock fuel cut levels.

you likely have a few boost leaks which is culling the creep.

yea i saw a picture of it and its the presilencer . would that restrict air flow and be the problem or is it mostlikely a boost leak

shouldn't cause a major restriction, its likely you have a boost leak or 2.

if youre still on stock injectors with 3" exhaust, its a ticking time bomb. at a minimum swap the secondaries with 750cc

would i have to get a ecu tune for injectors? or just plug and play with them?

You would definitely need something to control them. I would recommend an Rtek as an entry into tuning and it would be safe for the boost level you want.
