Angry running like crap

86 gxl I drove it last night for a few hours then parked at a friends house and it was running fine all night. I get ready to head home like 2 hours later and it wont start it just turns and wont fire. So i think I've flooded it so we push it off and it starts fine but I have almost zero power and it runs like crap. when I got home my last cat was glowing orange so today I removed it and it still will only start if I push it off and runs horrible. HELP guys.

Compression check. If that works out, then check for spark on the leading plugs. If you get good spark, then start suspecting a fuel problem like an injector that's stuck open (happens...).

It would be glowing orange because of all the fuel thats going straight out the combustion chamber into the exhaust. Do a compression test, u will probably find low compressoin on one of the rotors.

When there's no apex seal to compress the gas and air, the mixture basicially goes straight out the exhaust. If u have a cat, it usually just makes it glow red or orange. Have seen this happen more then once.

I've seen that on the fwy and tried to tell the guy about it and that son of &^%% flipped me off. So, I laughed all the way home for a surprise await him.

The apex seals are located in the rotor housing. The only way to fix these is a rebuild which requires taking the engine apart. Check out www.rotaryresurrection.com for some good prices on rebuilds.

Did you use a regular compression tester for the test? On regular piston compression checkers you have to hold the check valve open or it will only read the highest reading. Since a rotor has 3 faces you should get three readings for each rotor (example: 97-95-93 or something like that).

Since one of the readings you got for the first rotor was 40 I would say you blew at least one seal (2 faces have low compression). I think per the FSM it the compression numbers should be at least 85+
