running lights hardwire switch? what color wires

hey all! my light switch stopped working and I only got High beams and no running lights or dash/interior lights besides door. I'm just wonder which wires on the plug are for the running lights/dash so I can make a switch for them for now? hopefully someone can help! thanks "got safety inspection soon"

Red/Green is for the gauge/dash lights. Red/Black is for the tail lights.

You might want to use the illumination fuse which is the fuse that these items use or use another fuse in an unused slot and wire it to that or use a fuse to an accessory prewired from the factory but not used.

I'd def use the illumination fuse. so can I just twist the rear lights and dash light wires together and run that to 1 lead on the switch then the wire that's wrapped around a leg on the fuse to the other lead on the switch? or if I don't use a switch just twist the 3 together?

The illumination fuse powers a White/Green wire which would run to one side of a switch and the other side running to the wires (R/B and R/G) that power the items you need powered.

i tried this and no luck with the tail lights sadly! had a blown fuse and the w/g wire on the plug was burn so I cut that one and the red and black one and wired them all together and it turned my gauges on but no tail lights

R/B is a Red wire w/a Black stripe. B/R is a Black wire w/a Red stripe. Are you confusing the R/B with B/R?

What do you mean by saying you don't have a Red/Green wire for that makes no sense.

It should be located at the corner of the plug next to the W/G wire. You stated you got the dash lights to work, so which wire did you use to accomplish that?

there is no red and green! the blue is connected to the dash lights supposedly on this. also my wire from the fuse to the tail lights now gets hot instantly when I touch them together. there a ground somewhere or something? can I just run the wire I got from the tail lights to the head light wire on the plug?

One of the wires cut is B/R. Why is this wire cut? Don't you have Blue then W/G then R/B?

And I forgot you have an S5 and not an S4 so forget the wire colors previously mentioned. On the S5 the Blue wire does power the gauge lights but as stated in the 1st sentence the color order should be L,W/G and then R/B, and the R/B wire powers the running lights and tails.

I always cut my wires and put a male/female wire connector in idk why I just do lol and the r/b wire causes sparks and gets hot instantly with a wire connected to the illumination fuse. any ideas?

so I answered that myself. I had this blue/white wire connected to my radio(only turns radio on if connected to that)and if I unhook it the lights turn on and no heat and sparks

ANSWERED MYSELF AGAIN. radio was connected to blue and white and I tested it on blue and red and it worked and my lights work now

Too much resistance on the wire. The wire could be coming in contact w/a ground or the sheathing is damaged or the bulbs are wrong or the bulb sockets are in poor shape (rusted). You could do a continuity to ground test by setting the meter to continuity and placing one meter lead to the R/B wire and the other meter lead to a ground and see if the meter rings out. If it does then the wire is accidentally grounded.

And why did you cut the B/R wire, not what you did to it after cutying it, but why is it cut in the first place?

I cut it because I didn't wanna have to run the wire through the plug so I cut it and put a connected to the plug and harness wire. but I solved my problem my actual light switch works now. power to my radio was hooked up wrong lmao thanks for the help again!
