running annoyingly hot

here we go again.1986,b-13,non turbo.on the temperatture dial,if cold was zero and hot was 100,it always stays around 55-65,uaually around 60 or so.is this running hot? no matter how hard i am on it,it never really goes above 65,and usually never below 60.im just worried this might be a problem in the summer heat. ----help------

I think the s4 guage should be about 1/4 to 1/3 up when warm. In an s5, it sits at about 1/2.
You could try flushing the coolant if you're that concerned. Also make sure your fan is working properly, and that nothing is blocking your radiator.

Check with a mechanical gauge to be sure of temp. Also check, or for the minor cost, change thermostat along with above.

Buy and install an aftermarket gauge. Then you won't be scratching your head anymore about what the actual temps are.

Worked for me.

My current engine had 70,000 kms on it when I got it and I've put 85,000 on it since then and she runs perfectly. While I don't race, I am often heavy on the throttle and enjoy spirited runs on a regular basis.

The simplest thing you can do to prolong engine life is change the oil often. I change mine as soon as it starts to darken - about every two to three months. I also run premix b/c, IMHO, the OMP does a lousy job. There have been several threads in the last few weeks about premixing - have a look.

You made a poor choice, and/or got a poor car.
