Rubber Molding
Rubber Molding
My 1988 Rx-7 has this rubber molding along the side of the car. I am thinking of buying an 89 to 91 Turbo II. Did they come with this same molding? I do not like it, and i was wondering if they had it. Also, is there are any companies that make new molding that is other colors. Any information would be helpful. Thank You. Bryan.
Well if it is glued, you can use a heat gun. I used it to take the little strips off (the colored ones on the top of the fenders and doors). I hope its something like that
because then I'll have an easy job taking the molding off!

check www.mazdatrix.com for replacement moulding. I think they sell it new, but its also very expensive, it'd be best searching junkyards, or ask people who are parting out their cars.

WOW!
Just for one piece on one side its $31. Thats the small piece behind the rear wheel. I'll probably end up getting them later on, but I'll search later on for them on a car being parted out. Also, on the previous post, i realized something. They should be held on with pins, that clip into the protector strips. I will investigate tomarrow when i get some light. Thanks.
You can just paint them to match your car. Thats what i am doing(well did the sides already). I also took off the stripes and all the stickers. I used some sticker removal spray and a razor scraper thing.
Go buy a heat gun from like Sears or something. It looks like a blow dryer, but it gets soo hot it melts the glue then use some solvent (mild) and take the exsisting glue. That way you dont have to repaint if you mess up with the razor blade. The gun wont bubble the paint or anything either. I think they are like 30 to 50 bucks. I got mine at Harbor Freight (cheapest hardware store ever) for like $30. Its the best bet. Good Luck.
