Rubber inserts need on rebuild?

Just a quick question. After taking apart my blown rebuild I find that there are no rubber inserts on the corner seals. I know this had nothing to do with the engine blowing, but since I am now rebuilding the engine myself, I am wondering if its common practice to not install the rubber inserts on the corner seal plugs. If it makes any difference, the apex seals the rebuilder used were Atkins.

Thanks

I am thinking you should have them. I have never heard of anyone not putting them in. I mean why would you not? What's the plus side?

i wouldnt put a motor together without them. when i tore apart my motor for a rebuild it had them in there, they were a little melted, but otherwise fine. i think they keep the apexseals roughly in the right place. but you can get solid corner seals too

Well, I am planning on buying some rubber plugs. Very interesting that there were no rubber plugs on my rebuild.

I thought they were only there to aid in making slightly more cracking compression when starting a hot engine?

we did not used them in our test $0 rebuild and car has big problems to start up (flooding), but once it runs, its pulling really nice.....and gas mileage is really bad as well ))
