hey how many gaskets can you use RTV(high temp) instead of gaskets. i have an 88t2 if that helps

IME, everything except for turbo oil drain and all the expensive metal gaskets in the exhaust.

which gaskets are the metal ones? i know the exhaust one is meatal but what else?

engine -> turbo exhaust manifold
turbo exhaust manifold -> turbo
turbo -> downpipe

Ted- You mentioned the turbo oil drain.
That surprises me.
Do you mean the one on the bottom of the turbo center section?
Have you had an RTV seal fail there?

Maybe because is hard to get to if the engine is in the car?

Yeah, I tried just bare RTV...3 times.
I got tired of having to remove the damn turbo just to get to the damn flange!
After using a paper gasket (RTV coated of course), it sealed up fine.

Others have claimed to have gotten it to seal with just RTV, but I have had bad luck trying to do that.
It's like a $2 gasket, so why skimp now?
