Rtek 2.1 Problem, from installing grounds?

I just soldered 3 new grounds onto the wires at pins 3A, 3G, and 2R as Hailers thread on the subject said to do in order to fix a secondary injector hesitation I was having. I reconnected the ECU plugs, then my negative battery terminal, then went to check the status with my palm and it wouldn't connect. I took the grounds back off, then tried to connect again and no go. I am confused to what could be the problem. I checked the palm connection, all the ECU wires and cannot figure out why I cannot connect. I can sync my palm to my computer. It worked just before I added the grounds. Help.

Sure you put all the plugs back on the ECU? Sorry, no real idea why. I've, in the past, had some problems with the cable that connects to the Palm. Like having to wiggle it to get it to work/connect.

IF the car starts and is driveable I'd expect the RTEK/ Palm to connect.

Yeah I made sure that I pushed the plugs all the way in. I did try to start the car and it won't. Could it be possible that one of the plugs isn't contacting with the ECU?

Well I checked my engine fuses and the EGI COMP fuse was blown. I changed it and it blew. I unhooked the grounds and the EGI fuse held and the I was able to connect to the Rtek again. I am 100% positive I have tapped the right wires. The only difference is that I just made a cut about 1-1/2 inches up and slid the shielding back, then soldered in the grounds there. Could the fact that I tapped the wires that way affect the way it grounds?

I grounded to the 10mm nut to the left of the ECU, is there a better place?

Naw. It seems you've shorted a power wire when you did the grounds. There's no way to tell which one from here. Undo what you did.

I see something. Those wires I wrote were for a SERIES FOUR car. Series five pinouts are different. UNDO WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

On a series five, 3G is from the CRANK ANGLE SENSOR. And there is NO 2R on a series four. UNDO what you have done.

I have a 10th Anniversary Edition T2, that was made in March of '88. I thought that made it an S4? I have the S4 FSM on my laptop and it has a pin 2R on the bottom left of the middle ECU plug. Thanks for helping me Hailers, I will investigate more today.

Well, then ignore the series five stuff I posted. All I know is I see the 1990GTU and such and assumed it was a series five.

All of the wires should have been BLACK but if you do 2C also, its color is Brown/White. You look at the plugs from the wire side of the plug, as is shown in the first jpg attached here.

I've no way of knowing what went wrong if it's a series four car.

Wow so you look at the plug from the side that the wires come out of? I think that is the problem, I was looking at it from the front where the pins connect to the ECU then looking to the back. Damn wiring. Thanks, I will report back with my results.

..ground wires? To help hesitation?..RED!,I hope you know that the Rtek is supposed to help with stumbling and the hesitation issues...So Why you are adding grounds is beyond me..Personally,I would just Not Screw with the wiring,Or Repair it back to Stock,Install the Rtek and see what happens...I am going to Follow this thread,as I am getting a 2.1 also, and need all the info I can get on it!.cheers,STYX!~

Well the way they tell you to look at the ECU plug was just confusing me. I removed the wires that I added, without adding the grounds. Wired my 10ohm resistors to the proper wires, one was right, one was not. Now all is well.

The reason I thought I needed the grounds to fix the hesitation I was having was because one of my 10ohm resistors was wired wrong. When the FSM says ECU SIDE for the plug I assumed they meant the closest side to the ECU, not other side of the plug. No hesitation now and all is well. Now I just need to find a dyno within a days drive. Thanks to all who helped.

*********So Why you are adding grounds**************

'cause I used that method to FIX the hesitatiion problem LONG before Digital Tuning even thought about making a RTEK. Along with numerous others.

Ref the fix from MAZDA for early series four with hesitation. It FIXES the hesitation on my car, not mask it.
