Perhaps the confusion is between a fuel cut and rev-limiter. I've got a good exhaust on my na, K&N drop in, and some smoothing of the intake elbow - it still doesn't make useful power past about 7800 (s5), although sometimes I keep my foot in it past 8k when autocrossing just because shifting might be inconvenient/not worth while. Porting, and balancing the rotating assembly could make higher revs worth while, but I don't see any use to increasing the fuel cut or rev-limit on a stock engine, when it runs out of breathing capacity before redline anyway.

i have never seen an s4 rev-limiter. I have owned 4 now and none of them have had any rev-limiter besides that stupid buzzer. fuel cut because of boost? yes. number of rpms limited by ignition shut down? nope. i have spun mine well past 9000 on numorous occasions just because. i am not recommending this, obviously but it can be done. heck i blew a motor (misshifted from 5th to 2nd at ~85mph) and watched the tach spin around back close to 0! needless to say that was the end of that motor due to apex seals giving out, that i can probably figure was caused my both improper ignition timing at extreme engine speeds and centrifical force causing the apex seals to pull out of their grooves and hang up on the exhaust port. this happened on a stock block. thats my 2 cents.

many apologies to all non-racers for sending out this factual info.....I race in Grand Am and SCCA and have more than 100 hours of rotary engine dyno under my belt. I thought that I was passing along some good info to some RX7 freaks that knew whatzzzzzzzz, rather than a bunch of rumor spreaders who know nothing. Tell your girlfriends to email me through goldinbrosracing.com and I will gladly explain to them how a rotary engine flows above 6000 rpm. No sense in responding to me on this site as I am deleting my membership on this ****** site. Peace.

I tested it out on my car today. It has an s5 engine but and s4 ecu, so I knew it was fine trying it out. It very clearly hit a wall at around 8500. The tach maxes out at 8100, so I don't know what the guy talking about rotating it all the way around was talking about.
Also, it was fuel cut since the a/f meter went quite lean when it hit the wall.

So you have 100 hours of dyno time under your belt huh.

Man up and post a dyno-sheet backing up your claims in the first post. It's page 2 and you haven't even done it.

name right parts. what? the same **** Mazda use? rotor balancing Or lightened whatever doesn't magically install itself on aport job.Nor they come in any regular rebuild. you idiots...
Not the same **** mazda uses. On a rebuild you can have anything installed into the engine. Different rotor bearings, lightend rotors, hardend stationary gears different apex seals and/or springs etc. Depending on the port job you have will decided what needs to be upgraded in the engine.

bULLSHIT. KEEP YOUR 2 CENTS YOU LYING KID.

the tach stops a little past 8, and the s4 rev limiter is a little bit past that. the tach dose not spin backwards, it is not possible. want to find out? start ur car up and floor the throttle and hold it there. stops at 8 and then the rev limiter kicks in.

have you ever had the tach taken out? thers a stop on it past 8. it is physically impossible for it to go past that. stop bullshitting, you know nothing about rx7s.

No, there isn't. Have YOU ever taken the tach out? You can rotate the needle on its pivot for as many rotations as you want. There is no stop pin. Sorry dude, if you're going to rag on someone, at least know what you're talking about.

It is not impossible for a stock car to rev its tach past 8K. The rev limiter is a fuel cut, not a spark cut. I've watched a guy downshift into second instead of 4th and wrap the tach damn near around to zero as he dropped the clutch.

actually, you are wrong...
if you turn the tach, you can actually feel the resistance change when it 'hits' that stop.

if you want, pay me for the shipping and i will glady send you one, or two of my tachs that stops. of course, if you force the needle past that point, it would keep going, but it also doesnt return to 0,,, because the thing that turns the motor doesnt turn that far.

or maybe i just happen to have all of mazda's limited edition tach that has a stop.
