All right. Car was fine yesterday but then again they always are before you have issues. I'm going to check compression soon as I can. Maybe you guys can shed sine light.
Can't dive it well. Bucks on wot, bucks going over 3k rpm. Either smoke or fuel coming outta the passenger side above the turbo. Any guidance would be appreciated.

i should have added more info. im sorry.
other than downpipe, intake cone air filter, its pretty much stock. my safc stopped worked too, it did give out a check engine light but it went away. i pulled the egr just to see if that misty/smoke would still come out when i went crank it and it does. fuel line perhaps? vacuum leak maybe? ugh. im so frustrated. thank you all.

For an FC, you don't need a code reader. You have an S5, so ground the green 1 pin connector by the leading coil. Turn the ignition key to on and watch the check engine light. A long flash is 10, a short flash is 1. So, long, short, short would be twelve. It displays all codes in this manner until it completes however many codes there were. It's been awhile, but I think it cycles back once it has finished displaying all codes.

You really do need to chaeck compression. It sounds like rebuild time. Whatever you find out, post it here so others can see the resolution to your troubles. If everyone would do that it would make these forums so much more helpful.

Update:
I pulled the code off and this is what I get.
I assume I counted correctly and it's 8 short flashed indicates the afm sensor.. which would make sense since all of a sudden the safc had no power or lights anymore. I'm starting not to like the safc lol. It was dark out but I did a little poking around the ecu and find a nice cluster f@ck of wiring..
A buddy is coming later today to help me out. I'll do the commission test and the code would suggest I check out the afm sensor.
My question is would this code cause the rough idle and limp mode?
I appreciate any and all positive feed back. Thanks

I See a LOT of problems arise when someone tries to use the SAFC on these Cars.
You'd better check the wiring to that SAFC real good, because if it shutting down you would be getting codes up the Wazoo.
The Afm would have NO signal and throw a code to the ECU.

Yes. I think so too. It makes no sense. The car was fine.. I pulled my club out to lock on my steering wheel and it tugged on my safc wire.. Didn't think much of it at first. But now that I think back. It would have to be related to that. Next morning car started doing that. I want to remove the safc entirely actually as it isn't even tuned. Plus I plan on going rtek. Ugh. I hate wiring.

ok so solution was found.
it turned out the apexi Safc shorted out and was not giving a correct connection to the ECU AFM sensor. so i pulled the carpet where the ecu was at. and pulled up the ENGLISH manual to the safc wiring. found out that the wire to the input of the safc to the ecu and the out put of the safc to the ecu and disconnected them from the safc and rewired it back to the original way to the ecu. fired right up no issues (at least pertaining to this problem) cleared the ecu code and checked for codes again with nothing. on another note. my secondary fan started working again. go figure.
so in short. i will be in the process of removing the rest of the wiring associated with the safc and reconnect the wires as they should be to the ecu. i dont like spliced cables so im going to get it the way its suppose to the best of my ability now that i know what im doing. lol
i must say my experience witht he safc on this car is not satisfactory. i will be sending my ecu to get an rtek chip with in a month. in the mean time. general maintenance and up keep.
thank you all for the help and i hope this helps someone in the future.
until the next rx7 issue i run into!

yes, the AFC is an interim between the AFM and the ECU. with the SAFC not functioning then there was no signal sent to the ECU. without an AFM the car will run like total ***, which is basically what happened.
keep in mind that the SAFC is a fuel enrichment device, if the car was tuned to a certain boost level and you remove the SAFC= "boom", no more engine. turn the boost down to stock levels if you are unsure.
it could have been as simple as the power wire to the SAFC coming loose, or ground wire.
