rotors rusty

rotors rusty

i have a 4 wheel disc 86 fc and it has been sitting for a long time. alsmot 5 years. the car has been moved but not ran. it now runs and the rotors are really rusty. it looks to be surface but i'm not sure. they are still on the car. how can i clean them up. or am i better off buying new ones. the pads are still really good on them though.

I would take them off and get them turned on a brake lathe if they still have good width to them.

yeah but he said they were the rotors in his engine not his brakes. the rotors look to be about 1/2 inch thick. is this to thin? i don know about brakes that much.

They should be alittle thicker.

All you can do is get them turned....I've done this myself, mine still sqeek tho

if it is just a thin layer of surface rust, just driving the car a few miles with some light braking would burn it off.

My car whendriven like 40mph then pushing the breaks moderatly hard the rear feels like its viberating, thats the rotors being not finished good right? or warped

if they vibrate like that then there inneed of being either turned or replaced.

Was talkin to my dad, he said audi's need to be like perfectly flush or it will viberate, I noticed it does ALITTLE just bareally feel it

your rotors are probably warped, they would need to be resurfaced to get rid of the runout.

My dad used to work at a shop that let him do all the work on his car thathe wanted free since he was their master mech

We both resurfaced them all till its just a waste, still feel it, he said they're ruind and need to be replaced soon.
