root type supercharger?
Do they make a root type supercharger for 2nd gen RX7 N/As? You know the one that come out of the hood.....my dad was interested about that an offered to buy it could u help me out?

first of all....i wouldnt mind having a blower....but it seems like my dad thinks its his car....and he wants a blower on it....i think itd be tight....be the only one in NE with a blower sticking out.....i bet the civic i pull up to would be a little weirded out.

I got to race it in my old 626 (when it still had wheels), trust me, that thing isn't as fast as it looks, definatly under 300hp. probably around 250.
and another thing (
) don't worry about any of the civics in Omaha. ALL and I mean ALL are rice, it pisses me off watching all this idiodic teenagers running around in their civics with their +20hp hot-air intakes and super-aerodynamic decals, they think they have racecars.... nm..

I don't know of any that come out of the hood. The Atkins supercharger is the only Roots type kit that I know of, and it's offset to stay below the hoodline. I guess you could put a big air scoop on it that comes out of the hood, but it would be offset to the passenger side which may look a bit strange.

If you just want a cool intake sticking out of the hood, you could probably convert to a standalone engine management system to elimanate the stock airflow meter, and then plumb the intake into a dragster-type scoop that comes out of the hood. You wouldn't actually have a supercharger, but your car still wouldn't be as rice as the Hondas, lol. Examples:

Dude--think seriously about what you are saying here....
a blower sticking up thru the hood....no one makes this for the FC, and there is a reason why too! You are talking about a unit that is typically used to make really big power(notice I said TYPICALLY). This isn't gonna look good on a little car like the 7....looks great on 68 camaros, etc, but then again it is still made for those applications. You can find a s/c setup that doesnt stick up thru the hood and be better off--power, but also driveability in the weather that you get up there. I am guessing that this is your first and only car....imagine driving to school in the winter...in snow....or rain....with this thing exposed to it all. Sound like a good idea to you?? I didn't think so....IMHO, if your dad wants to make it a sweet ride, tell him you would rather spend the money on cleaning it up and making sure it runs bulletproof--new paint if needed, maintenance, etc. Just take a look around the pics on this forum and think of how cool that car could look next to your friends' beaters

why dont someone make a supercharger with a rear type intake system for efi like on the mustangs, then have it sit on top the block so when we go to take a header off we dont gotta rip apart the entire engine.

My viewpoints of why there are not any big supercharger kits for the RX-7:
1) Most RX-7 enthusiasts know more about technology than the average Joe. Therefore, they know that a roots blower is the most inefficient piece of junk supercharger on the planet.
2) Most RX-7 owners are cheap, and would never pay the high price for a good Lysholm-type supercharger.
3) The rotary engine makes most of its power at high-rpms, which is turbocharger territory.
4) The 13BT and 13B-REW engines have almost no lag, produce boost at extremely low rpm's, but still have good efficiency at higher rpm's. It is difficult to justify wasting $3,000 on a roots blower that will have about the same torque but less high end power.
