The engine does very well however I have found that the accessory components such as electrical and cooling are somwehat delicate.

I used to drive mine 500 miles every 2 weeks. No problems. It was a windy road and did well. I also took it on a 1500 hundred mile road trip through the hot souther cali desert, again no problems. Just do some maintanence like new plugs and oil and she should be ok.

EDIT: Is that a real pic of your lady?

Longest I've driven was 600 miles straight at +90mph speeds. It drove like a champ and I could feel my legs afterwards.

HAHA, mine car only lasted about a month and a half after I got it! Ofcoarse that was probably my bad for buying a 4th owner car and not really knowing a whole lot about RX-7s. O well, I have learned a sh*t-load now!

It's a car like any other...well maintained, it does what cars are supposed to- travel.

I put on 3500 miles in two weeks this past summer with no issues or problems.

Drove my car back after buying it 400 miles, got up to 135mph. Woke up the next morning, found out the tires were dry rotted The turbo was also blown, but I didn't find that out till a while later.

Just change the oil, check your fluids, and do a basic overall inspection, and she'll be fine.

^ what they said

Keep an eye on your fluids. I always bring a quart of oil, coolant, funnel, rags, flashlight, and basic set of tools in the trunk just in case.

I've never had a problem (knock on wood).

Austin to Vegas non stop (except for gas) not a problem. It was extra fun late in the drive getting tired...suddenly felt like I was in a video game goin ***** out trying to get there...I'd suggest getting plenty of rest before you drive any long distance.

Like every other car manufactured, it will be fine on long trips as long as it is maintained.

If the car has obvious mechanical problems that effect it's reliability, then think twice and bringing it on a long trip in unfamiliar surroundings. But if it's in good shape and has been properly maintained then it's no big deal.

This goes for any car, whether it is a 2000 Civic or an '86 RX-7.

^ +1. The FSM in the forum FAQ or Haynes manual chapter 1 will give you what you need. Of special concern would be the belts, hoses, thermostat, fan clutch, brake pads, fluid levels (oil, coolant, clutch, brake) and voltage (12V car off, 10V car starting, 14V car on). Other items are equally important if you don't want to lose your car, but if you're going on a road trip next week then do the above first. And if your car has any problems naturally you must fix them before gong anywhere.

I make frequent long trips with no issues. Except I had a bad thermostat once. That was dumb of me not to check. But I just had to pull it and walk a long ways to get some water.
