Rich? Lean? What?

Well I am trying to tune my car for drivabilty only right now. My fuel setup is 4x 720s, walbro pump, s-afc, and fcd. Now I currently have my settings on my s-afc at -14 across the board for the lo settings and for hi -7 for 1-3k and a gradual increase in fuel to -2 at 8k. Heres what concerns me. If I am in neutral and floor it, the RPMs will go no where unless I pump the gas instead of just flooring it. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks alot.

If you floor it in neutral, you are into the "HIGH" map based on TPS position. Since you are not seeing enough engine load to see boost, you are WAY rich.

Do you have the SAFC plugged into the TPS or the pressure sensor.

I think aaron nailed it. That's going to be absurdly rich.

Well I just ran it a little bit at boost. I am running 8 lbs. Now I was at 70 it fourth putting it at 4k. Floor it and with full boost it takes at least 3-4 full seconds to get to 4500rpms.

I wish I knew. I did the initial install and did it per instructions (TPS I believe). Then my mechanic reinstalled it after my rebuild/etc was done and it reads alot more accurately instead of 100% for any throttle at all, so I assume he used the pressure signal.

Also, very stupidly I set the boost back to where it was before my rebuild and 720 primarys which is 1 bar and ran it and as soon as it got to about 1 bar it almost hits a wall. Very strange? Am I just running stupid rich or what? Should I just put the hi map like -25 across the board and run minimum boost and see how it runs?

Well heres the really strange part. Now I set my low at 0 across and hi at +14 across and the car drives like normal. No hesitation, nothing. Now it still does the same thing at 1 bar of boost (I set the s-afc at +50 for high at 3k and up, and worked it down) and no matter what it does the same thing. I'm thinking there must be a boost leak that only shows up when at a certain amount of pressure and unrelated to fuel. So how could this be happening? Anyone know what the stock fuel pressure should be at idle and under load? Thanks alot.

Too rich, most likely. Buy a wideband so you can see what is going on. Or spend the money at a dyno shop.

Ryde and Dye....have you gone back and looked at your SAFC settings? Maybe a finger slipped and your not on FLAP right now.

Go to ETC and Sensor check and tell us what the reading is for AF1 and Throttle Position when your at idle. Idle being around 750rpm. Those readings might be able for someone to figure out if your connected to the tps or the pressure sensor.

I agree with Hailers, unless you get it tuned with a wideband you're pretty much wasting your time and possibly your engines life.

I'm not trying to push it now, just want it to run right. I got it running right now, only problem is that it shoiuld be running super rich at the settings I have it but for some reason it is not. I'll check what the settings are on in a bit and post back. Thanks.

how much does dyno tuning usually run?

I recommend the dyno shop because you can get a wideband readout printed on your dyno sheet along with respective torque, hp, and rpm, which is much better for tuning than a simple AFR meter. Besides, it is really difficult to tune the full load range on the street (hard on the clutch), and a dyno is far superior for isolating a given load or rpm band. Additionally, the dyno will let you tune for power and torque, while just an AFR meter will only tune for a given AFR while you must try to determine whether or not any tuning changes increase or decrease the performance. The dyno costs about $20/run, and you can usually get special pricing if you need a lot of runs, or if you get a group rate such as at a "dyno day" event that is periodically scheduled by most dyno shops.

Ok I checked and flap is on 6 in and 6 out. The pressure is at 1 in and 1 out. Is on 4 cyl and the arrow is to the upper right. Can't check the idle settings right now because its 11pm and my car is pretty loud.

Now what are all the settings supposed to be?

Those settings are wrong...I believe it's 5 in 5 out. Not sure what "pressure" signal you are referring to, as the S-AFC only referenes TPS (unless you have specifically plugged it into the pressure sensor). Check the instructions at http://www.fc3s.org

Well I changed it to 5 in and 5 out for the flap. As for the pressure I was talking about. I went to etc, then sensor, then pressure and its 1 in and 1 out. How does that sound?

It should be flap type.

There's no reason to have positive percentages in the safc; especially with 4 x 720's.

With the key in the ACC position look at the TPS displayed. If it's around 50 percent then it has been tied into the pressure sensor. If it's near 0 then it's based off the TPS.

What turbo is this on?

When you go to ETC ...then go to SENSOR CHECK......the IN -1: Should be about 3.930v if the key is to ON and the engine off...........IN-2: Should be 0.070 or basically 0.000000 it goes to nothing so disregard.......THRT: Should read 2.20 IF connected to the pressure sensor and not the tps and the key is to ON and the engine not running.

If you go to ETC then to SENSOR TYPE, it should read FLAP and if you press the key it should show SENSOR NO. which should be 05 and 05 IF it's a series four. A series five will be 06 and 06.

If you go to MONITOR, the AF1 should read 0.4% if the key is to ON and the engine off.
If you go to MONITOR the THR should read approx 48.5% IF you are connected to the pressure sensor and not the tps.

You lost some of us on that part about the PRESSURE 1 in and 1 out. ??????????????????

Sorry, but is this a series four or five????? Four I think.

If you have the SAFC connected to the tps.......there's nothing really wrong with that. If that is the case, then when you go to SENSOR check, it should read approx 1.000 v give or take .05 in either direction. Not a biggie. That would be with a hot engine if you still have the thermowax etc and no throttle body mod thingamajig.

I looked and you do have a series four, 1987 tuboii, so it should be set to 05 and 05 like you changed it to. And FLAP and the arrow to the up and to the right.

There shouldn't be any plus on the HIGH or LOW throttle unless its at the lowest setting for the idle. Not likely needed with a Waldo.
