Rice on the road

Well what I want all y'all to tell me is:
Aluminium wings (you know the sort- D1/GT style) on a FC - Can they ever not be considered rice?!?!?!?
Now I'm not talking racing or drift specific cars here- for street. Can someone have one on their street car and NOT be for rice? Is this possible? Are there any alum. wings at all that aren't rice

There are some good wings for cars, aluminum ones are not of the good ones. They look too cheezy. FC's just generally dont seem to be good for bigger wings, too small of a back to do it, the only one that i've seen work well is the stock ones.

It depends really. The Japanese drift leaguer's all have the wings, but then again they're drifting around corners at 60mph, so I guess they need them. If you do get a wing, get one with good taste, don't get one that goes anymore than 2" of the back of the hatch.

the stock mazda wing makes a fair improvement to drag, I'd say there's scope for a decent wing to make a decent improvement. Obviously not in a trip to the shops or traffic light drag, but not everyone limits themselves to that sort of usage...

not that I'm suggesting that most bewinged 7's aren't some form of rice...

I haven't seen an aluminum wing that I've liked yet. Found some fiberglass ones that I liked, the Mazda OEM being one of them, but I opted for an aftermarket wing myself. I bought mine strictly because I liked the look, did not think it was too big, and thought it couldn't hurt to have while I haul *** through the canyon on the way to work and back Mondays thru Fridays (although that last reason was really furthest from my mind, heheh). Bottom line though, it's your car, do what you want with it (except the large aluminum wing! j/k)

i tried that aluminum **** on the back of my 1st gen TSi AWD after i got my paint job. at first it looked cool, but as soon i heard people picking on it... i began to realize how gay it was. the factory Laser RS AWD DSM (92-94) came with a kick *** small wing that really sets the car off. (my friend has this, and the back end no longer looks like a DSM) sorry for rambling on. Question??? what do you think of the "supra style" wings that erebuni and other competitors sell?? i was thinking about the small supra wing on my TII but i think it will detract from the rest of the cars styling. I think i will just go with the factory GTU. any opinions
Josh

The huge supra style wings are over used and look awefull on anything other than a supra. the eberuni (sp?) wing on that black FC is rather clean looking though.

Check this thread:

It was in the 2nd Gen Section, but a certain killjoy moved it.

Hope that helps!

drifters dont need wings. Why you ask? well, its because the air needs to go stright over the wing to make downforce, and when your driving sideways thats not going to happen!
Its even worse on race cars that have ground effects tunels and that kind of stuff. Back in the ground effect days, they would always crash if they got sideways becuase they would lose there downforce.

i like the stock wing, anything else would just be hard to mount, ive seen some pretty bad attempts. alot of bad wings on verts too, since they have all that trunk space.

I like the aluminum style wing made of carbon fiber, but as far as aluminum goes you gota be real careful, it can easily look like **** but if you get the right style alum wing on the right color car its definatly not rice... but all you sentras an **** out there wit da ebay budget wing get a fukin clue!

...Does anyone? and are those them nitto tyres on there?

I think this is nice as, you'll all be pleased to hear I'm definately not gett'n an alum wing, just wanted to know if there any any out there that look even half decent on a FC. Don't even have a FC yet yet. They're a little hard to find in factory condition which is what I want down here at the bottom of the world. Thinkn I might have to get a nice one imported, seems tha best option.
I know exactaly what i want to do to it already lol! The plan of action is set as!

Wings

You know the displacement of the vehicle through the air is what causes pressure and vacuum all of those wings, spoilers, fins, etc... are pretty much useless when they get away from the air stream of the car unless your doing like 200 mph. The purpose for any wing or spoiler is for traction or handleing. Since I do not hear of many mazdas doing a burn out when you punch in 4th or 5th gear, they arn't worth a damn for drag racing except maybe stability at high speeds, so about the only thing they are good for is rally car. An RX-7 would benifit from a front air damn or spoiler to keep it from lifting off the ground at high speeds a lot more than something in the back. My pickup wouldn't benifit much from any type of aerofoil because of the turbulance at the back of the truck, but because of the vacuum behind the cab creating lift behind the truck a spoiler helps the most because it creates a vacuum behind the truck forcing the rear end down. Obviously an RX-7 has a definate air stream around the car like my truck but frankly the amount of drag they cause compared to the downforce that is actually useful I think makes them pretty useless other than looks. This is all just my opinion, to me everything is divided up into functional and cosmetic, I don't give a crap about cosmetic so I don't do something unless it is going to have a benificial gain, but some ppl want the look. So as long as you know which your achieving who really cares.

I like the wing on that Sexy blue FC. Although I would not put that on my GTU. I would get a TII and have it back up the need for the good looking wing.
