RF Shock broke at collar for spindle

I was heading home yesterday from Toledo to Cleveland, which seemed to be another monotonous trip, until I got off at my exit and decided to fill up the tank.
After filling up I made a u-turn towards the gas station exit, when the car pulled VERY hard to the right when I was trying to straighten the wheel. I got out thinking to myself how my tire could have went flat so quickly, when I noticed that I had about 45* of positive camber on the RF wheel.
Apparently the collar around the strut, which bolts to the knuckle, had ripped right off the strut. Being only about a mile from my house I called the old man and told him to bring a couple U-bolts. I managed to get both bolts out with only a 1/2" ratchet! I then put a U-bolt through each bolthole and cranked them tight around the strut.
I took the strut into Conrad's, where I worked this summer, and showed the master techs and they've never see it happen.
I'm seriously considering replacing all 4 struts, or at least the front with KYB AGX's.

I've never seen a strut that rusty. How about replacing EVERY part on you car that looks like that eh?

I checked the entire suspension out when I had it on the lift at my old job about 4 weeks ago and that shock wasn't anywhere near as rusty.
I'm guessing it was driven in snow by the looks of the underbody. I bought it in Virginia in May from the original owner.

This just gives me the reason to put it under the knife earlier than intended. Total rust removal, poly suspension bushings, possibly AGX's (if they fit in the budget), and the parents said they would buy paint if I get a 3.5gpa or higher!
