Rewiring CAS

I been trying to tackle the last gremlin on my car. I seem to have a short on the CAS. If I have the car running and I touch the CAS Wire and move it about 1/4th an inch the car will die. If I move it 1/8th an inch the timing will change. So as you can see this is a relatively bad problem to have when you hit bumps. The car bogs and what not.

Now I was thinking of running wires straight from the L, G, R, W (N,T,Q,P on harness) To the CAS. But after reading the wiring diagram i notice there is another plug between the ECU and the CAS. It is FE-04, where is this plug located (whereabouts) because I Would much rather just disconnect both sides of the CAS harness and just rewire that section seeing how much short has to be relatively clost to the CAS since I barely move it and get this affect.

Anyhelp from the Guru's would be greatly appreciated. If there is no ill effects of wiring straight from the ECU and you think it would be the best approach I will just do that.

The CAS wiring is part of the engine harness which then connects to the body harness (In the NAs anyway...I think others have it in the emissions harness). That's the plug you are seeing. If you want to rewire it then you will need to make sure you use shielded cable to do to. You can either cut the CAS connector of another stock harness and attach your new wires to it, or even better, upgrade to a modern WeatherPack style. This requires changing the connector at the CAS as well.

No matter how you do it, route it away from any ignition wires and use quality shielded cable. Ground the shield at the ECU end only. There are only a few millivolts through these wires so keeping interferance to a minimum is very important.

Mines doing the same as yours, if you barely touch the white plug above it the whole car will cut out and lose spark, so im guessing its just a short, the CAS itself is within specs as far as ohms go....

Yeah mine too. (its in spec that is). While driving does it seem to give you any problems? Cause my car doesnt kill on me, just pulses as the wire is wiggling I geuss. Anyhow hopefully it fixes my problem.

you all need to clean the contacts in your cas. working with the megasquirt, i know the ins and outs of a cas. also, you need to try andregap the cas. this will help greatly if your car has trouble reading the cas. use a sheet of paper to gap the sensor from the wheels.
