rewire o2 sensor

i have a quick question . (87 gxl, by the way)
the wire going to my o2 sensor is a tad bit crispy. i was just wondering if i could just run a new wire direct from pin 2d (i think) on the ecu to the o2 sensor, or is there more to it?

also what type of wire is recommended for this if it is possible? shielded, unshielded? 12 gage? 10 gage?

thanks in advance

The factory uses a shielded cable, which runs across the top of the engine, to eliminate any pickup from other electrical equipment. I believe you can run it straight from the O2 sensor directly into the ecu. As far as the gauge, just match it up with the sensor wire. It's pretty thin, eg 16/18.
