Question REW (3rd Gen) Swap Help???

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but here it is.

I just got a 90 GXL and I wanna swao in a 13B-REW (3rd Gen Motor.) I've read it's a very hard swap to do and I know the turbos won't fit. I plan on converting to a single set-up. The biggest problem is the locations for the motor mounts.

Does anyone have any info on this swap or can anyone lead me in the right direction???

Has anyne done this???

Any help greatly appreciated.

did you read the FAQ for FC at the top of this section.

Do you have a spare $10,000? Because on average that is what it costs.

so your gonna spend $10,000 on a $3000 car???

If you have to do a engine swap you are better off getting a S5 13B, or a 20B (since the motor mounts exist for those to put in).

The 13b RE swap (from Cosmo) is significantly easier and cheaper than the 13b REW. The power gain going to REW over a plain 13bT is not worth the extra pain and suffering (and $$).

You can obviously do it if you want, but do a search on the topic. Most folks will agree that it's hardly worth it. You could spend less than half as much swapping in the 13bT or 13bRE and get similar results.

Ill have pics of my project as soon as I get the engine mounted. I got the long block for free, so I cant really complain. The car is getting painted in about 2 weeks, and after than, Im going to fabricate the new engine mount for the REW. BTW, this is goign in my 89 TII.

The swap is too much of a pain in the ***, just because of the goofy motor mounts it uses.

And trav quit suggesting the -RE damnit, I like my car to be unique.

The mount wont be a problem for me. 2 fabricators and a master welder, I think Im pretty good to go.

LOL, well if everyone swapped that said they were going to, we wouldn't have a car on this forum that didn't have at least 1 to 2 swaps in it.

Besides, I gotta sell that other RE motor I have sitting here.

Tony, how much clearance is there between your turbos and frame rail/subframe? Am I correct in thinking the RE and REW turbos are pretty much the same size, and have the downpipe flange in the same spot?

doesn't K2RD sell mounts? If you do decide to do the swap, I suggest buying a cosmo front clip or a fd clip and not just the engine.

I didnt plan on the swap, but I was given an REW long block, running. The car was going to get a S5 long block, but getting the REW changed my plans a little. FYI, noone makes REW mounts, but like I said above, it wont be a problem for me.

Actually I'm not convinced having a whole Cosmo clip would really help that much. Doing my RE swap w/o it, and not sure what else would have been included that would have helped me. Just more crap to remove. Just MHO.

Hey, im not within 30 miles of the car though. I have to drive to another state to work on it, and I dont have a full day off till Sunday, so ill go then to do some more work on it. I hope to make some gaskets for it, and maybe get some of the LT-8 wired up.
