Question Rev problems

well, i dont understand whats going on.

88 n/a vert

stock everything. cats are aftermarket, but thats the only aftermarket thing mechanically.

so its hard to explain what happens. so i will refer to just the throttle. when i try to open the throttle up, it bogs down and will die if i do not let go of it.

however, if i hold it down lightly and still let it rev slowly, it can redline. i've only done that once.

spark plugs are replaced, but the injectors have been swapped out from wrecked rx7s.

so new injectors may be the solution, but i really dont want to get them and have the problem persist. the injectors are not leaking anymore so i do not know what is going on.

could it be something is cutting off the fuel and it shouldnt be? i dont think there are any vacuum leaks anywhere.

if i have to reset the tps or another one of the sensors, could someone explain it to me step by step? i have adjusted the little idle screw thing on the top so it idles around 800-700.

i still consider myself a noob on workin on my car even though i can explain how it works in general.

any help is appreciated. thank you!

Sounds like a bad or maladjusted TPS. Procedures to adjust the TPS are in the FSM (see FAQ).

when the throttle opens up, the thing above the main throttle with the screw that is adjusted does not open up. when i push it open, the car dies. so i guess its not getting enough air? and it just dies.

i proceeded to make the ecu test light. at first. it lit up to say the air flow meter was out. so i took that out. and then the light lit up indicating the water thermo meter. but when i connected the air flow meter back neither of the lights lit up. so i dont know what that means.

im still not sure whats going on. i tried to take the air flow meter apart, but that failed. so i put it back together. now the car wont start.

would replacing the air flow meter fix have any effects? when i got the car, the air intake thing had some sort of black goo inside. and in the air flow meter. the engine has good compression and it can idle fine when its warmed up.

we tried to clean whatever that black goo was and got most of it off, but i didnt know if the air flow meter was f'ed completely or if it still might work.

hopefully the local junkyard has some.

Well, taking about the air flow meter can throw it out of calibration or potentially destroy it if done wrong. That still won't cause it to not start. The ECU actually ignores the AFM until the car is running. So if the AFM is bad, it will fire up then die after a few seconds.

Check the TPS as Aaron suggested. Get back with us once you have the results. It is very easy to test, all you need is a multimeter (although 2 are handy.) You can also make a check light system. There should be directions for it on here.

i really appreciate everyone's help and suggestions. but funny enough, its gone now!

im so excited!

what did i do? i just replaced the air flow meter with a different one from a local junkyard. started her up after i got it installed and tried to rev her and bam she revved right up. no more hesitation!

i guess since there was some of that black goo stuff in my old AFM it was sticking at some point maybe? or it was a faulty sensor so it wouldnt open up and let air in when the throttle was opened up? but i am not really sure but she works. now to tune it so i can stop running incredibly rich!
