Question Restoring the Whitness In the Overflow Tank, Windshield Washer Resevoir etc.

I've soaked them over night In Castrol's Super Clean, ran them through hot water and I've even ran them In the Dishwasher (the wife would have had my neck If she'd known. ).

Aside from the obvious to buy them new, what techniques are you using to restore the whitness back to these Items, If any?

Try soaking it overnight in Chlorox bleach.

Anything to get them to brand new white might compromise strength - i.e. bleaching.  You can try and paint it, but it might not look good.

I think that you might have to treat them like FTP's or flasher lenses. That means sanding and polishing - and lots of it!

I have heard that "Plastic Lawn Furniture Restorer" works well on other plastics, but I'm not sure just how it would effect the opaque plastic of a washer bottle.

They also make cleaners specifically designed to take food and grease stains out of tupperware too - that might be an option.

I'm one picky bastard. I'm just thinking to myself how funny It Is that I want to do this. They are actually not to bad but they aren't White.

I'd like to see pics of this If you've got any.

That Is perhaps next on the agenda. If all else fails, which It has so far. I though about this from the beginning but I want to gag at the smell of this crap.

Good call Ted. I don't want to compromise the Integrity of the Resevoirs. I think after a all night soaking of the Super Clean and a beating taken all day In the Dishwasher @ 3 complete cycles that they still appear stout.

The last thing I want to do to them Is burn a hole or create a soft spot In them

I'll add this to the list of anti-Yellow combaters. Thanks Nick.

I used some crap called Marine Clean, which you have to dilute with water to tone it down, but it made my resivoir bottle a shade of white that hurts my eyes....

Is this the stuff?

MARINE CLEAN
Industrial Strength Cleaner and Degreaser

Warning: This is a highly concentrated alkaline cleaner.
Warning: If overspray touches glass, rinse or wipe off immediately. NOTE: Protective gloves and clothing should be used for constant or long exposure to this chemical, as severe burns could result. MARINE CLEAN may be diluted with water up to 10 times its volume.

The Perfect Cleaner for: Engines
Fuel Tanks
Holding Tanks
Grease Traps
Bilges
Galleys
Algae
Musty Odors
Canvas
Vinyl
Nylon
Clothing
Water Line Scum
Turbine Overhauls
Mildew

Emergency First Aid:
EYES: Flush with clear water, boric acid, eye.wash so.lu.tion. SKIN: Flush with clear water, dilution of vinegar & water.
INHALATION: Bring to fresh air.
INGESTION: Induce vomiting, call physician.

Marine Clean does not require Coast Guard certification for use in ships store on board vessels, because its characteristics do not present sufficient hazard to be considered dangerous under 46-PFA-147

In my experience, the more corrosive and dangerous it is - the better it works!
