reserve fuel ?

How much is left after the first empty line ?

I can go a quarter tank below the second empty line.

Just wondering if its the gauge that's wrong or the sending unit

Also my tank filled up with only 45L at the second empty line.

At this point, never trust the gauge. Our cars are so old the electrics are off. Even in modern cars, you really don't know what's left. I never trust the gauge in any car. When I hit 1/4, I fill up regardless of what I'm driving. Go by mileage and fill up accordingly.

There is no correct answer to this question because at this stage of their lives, every sending unit is going to be different.
I've heard it said that most fuel gauges are only truly correct a 1/2 tank anyway, above and below, they're all off to some degree.

Mine will always take about 14 gals after the fuel light comes on which would leave about a 2 gal reserve?

Reset the trip every time you fill up, and refill around the same mileage. The low fuel lights always fail and the level sender output changes with age.

In my car, when it was stock you better be within coasting distance whether light comes on. Lol. Although now the surge does hold about a gallon or so extra so I can go a block or soo.

Seriously though you should never really go below 1/4 tank on any vehicle, there is no fuel to keep the pump cool and you have a better chance of sucking garbage into your pump.

If you really want to know,Grab a 2 gallon gas can and go driving until it dies.If you want an estimate then look into your Vehicle specs,as S4 and S5 have different size tanks.

you get 1 block per gallon? either your definition of a block is really fucked up, your "gallon" is really a cup, or your car is fucked

reason the gauges can never be compared is because as the sender unit wears the resistance will vary from original. eventually the wires will break and fray causing really erratic readings below 1/4 tank.

ALL fuel senders are worn the most below half, since that is where the tank is most of the time, heh.

Same here, 14ish after the light comes on and stays on.

I used to think it was 4 gals.,(maybe it is) but it burns like 2 gals.

When the light comes on in my vert it takes 16-16.5gallons to top it off. Which leaves me at ~2gallons still in the tank.

the owners manual says the light should come on with about 2 gallons left, they do vary though.
