Replacing steering wheel

Is it possible to install a steering wheel with an air bag? Lets say one of the stock FD steering wheels, is it possible to install it on an FC?

yes, but the air bag wont work...

actually, it might work if you have a vert. i believe the connectors are the same...they sure look like they are the same.

The wheel itself will fit nicely but nothing else will work without lots of fiddling.
Actually, getting the horn to function is pretty straightforward but the cruise and airbag would be more difficult- if even possible.

The problem is the slipring- the device that transfers the electrical connections to the rotating rim. The FD is totally different and a casual look doesn't show any way to adapt it.

Tis' a shame.. What are your guys's thoughts about the fact that it has no airbag? Im planning to buy a '91 coupe and the fact that it has no airbags kind of worries me, not to the point that i dont want to buy the car anymore, but just little concerns.

i have a 91 vert w/ an airbag and i actually swapped it for an aftermarket wheel to get rid of it. no big deal IMO.

What about putting in a conv FC airbag? Would that be a straight forward bolt on?

The wheel would probably fit but then you'd have to also retrofit all the associated electrics from the steering column AND the sensors etc. for the airbag as well.

Given the difficulties I'm having getting a cruise control installed, the airbag looks way too involved.

A rollcage and harness would probably be easier.

I'm glad my RX doesn't have an airbag. So long as I've got my seat belt on I feel safe enough. If the stock belt doesn't do it for ya you could always go with a cage and harness.
