CA Removing PS and AC...question

i am thinking of removing the ps and ac in my car, mainly because it will free up quite a bit of room in the engine compartment...some cars can react differently when you do this, anyone done it(im sure someone has) and how will a rx7..(s4) react? can anything negative happen from it? i have driven several cars without PS, so i wont be suprised when steering is hard lol

Well you'll get a hot interior, but they made windows that open for that. With no PS it isn't hard to steer at all.

Removing the AC is as simple as it sounds...you're just taking parts off.

The power steering is a slightly different matter.
You'll either have to properly depower your stock rack- which many people would favor due to the fast ratio- or swap in a true manual rack (easier but slower ratio).

I've done both and I don't miss either. I don't drive my car all that much, but the manual rack I put in makes steering feel much better. Steering at low speed is more difficult but pretty much standard for a manual. My AC didn't work anyway, so I ditched it. The extra space in the engine bay is very nice.

I can tell you from not having ac that there will come a time, at some point, when you will want to have the ac. If you don't dd your car, the chances of this happening will be much less likely.

Well I don't dd my rx7, I have a 03 silverado for my daily, so I won't miss ac too much...I just think the extra room in the engine bay would be nice...any negative effects w the oem crank pulley?

The crank pulley is multi-piece...you can remove any unused sheaves.
No negative effects.

+1 I did that with my AC main pulley section and it was surprisingly heavy.

I've done it, its not that hard and it isnt hard to steer either. If you are very weak dont do it.

I've heard of a lot of guys running de-powered 15:1 racks fine. it's really just personal preference. it'll be a little harder to turn in parking lots, but I think the added benefit of quicker steering is worth it.

I'm planning on de-powering my 15:1.
