parting out n/a (what to keep)
parting out n/a (what to keep)
I have a 90 t2 and an 89 n/a and im being forced to scrap the n/a.Iv already taken the bumpers, mirrors, steering wheel, sunroof panel, brake calipers, front and rear lights, doors, and the rear hatch.
Is there anything else i should be keeping? windscreen?
Oh yeah im also keeping the viscous fan as the t2 fan has a few chips in the blades.
and iv already had the wiper switch which i found didnt work any better than the t2's weird as it worked in the n/a although it was a few years ago when it worked and the cars been sat outside since then.
Thanks for helping!

Every electronic component out of the engine bay that you can extract.
Radiator.
Front (fascia) bumper and both fenders. All the solenoids between the headlights. Instrument cluster, ecu, cpu, the entire heater unit, logicon switch assembly, instrument cluster surround and its switches.
Don't save the rear hatch unless you have a desperate clutter shortage. You'll never use it. And in the very unlikely event that you do need another one, you probably won't have to look far to find someone who has a hatch that has been sitting around forever and they're all too happy to get rid of.
[edit]Transmission, but not the driveshaft. Leave the oil in it. Take the pressure plate and clutch off the flywheel; you'll probably want that clutch in a few years.
Master cylinder, brake booster, tps, all 4 fuel injectors, acv, tie rods, shocks (but not springs,) fuel door, fuel door lever and fuel door latch assembly. Clock and its plastic surround. Rear-view mirror and its lights. Door switches. All marker light lenses and the bulbs/sockets behind them.

engine drop
Good day to all, Il try and explain my situation the best way i can!
Iv decided i want to keep the engine from the n/a, the car is pretty much stripped of everything listed above so when the scrap guy comes they are going to use a grabber hi ab thing to pick it up and put on the truck.
So because i have no engine hoist is it going to be easier or even possible? to remove the car and leave the engine on blocks in situ?
Thanks

Simplest way to find out would be to jack up the front of the car, put a support under the motor (a stack of bricks or lumber, for instance,) remove the two engine mounts completely and then lower the car again. After that, if it looks good, you're just at the mercy of the skill of the crane operator. I would try to cover and seal up any ports/holes/whatever into the engine in case the body taps it while he's lifting it and knocks the engine ***-over-tea kettle...

3.put tires under the motor
4.take the motor mounts completely out. one at a time. people can pull it to one side of the car and the motor will tip and another can flip the mount out.
5. wiggle the motor out if it already hasn't fallen out.
6. get all your friends to pick the front of the car up as far as they can and with that rope thats tied to the motor pull it out from under the car.
i did this but had stuff when friends lifted it up i threw stuff under the car till it got high enough. well your at home so you can use a jack lol.
