Reliability

Im swapping a jspec engine into a 1990 GTU. What will i need to change to make it more reliable? I know i need the tII fuel pump, ecu, etc. But I am going to be running a custom TID, and a 2.5" downpipe. Will i need a FDC? How much boost can a stock tII engine handle, and what do i need to run high boost without nuking the engine?? Im sure these questions have been asked many times before, but i dont have much time to do searches for them. Thanks,
Drew

well, if you're gonna run intake, DP, and exhaust right off the bat you're definately gonna need an FCD. but that is merely a band aid fix to trick the computer into not seeing higher boost levels. but in return since its not seeing the high boost is doesn't send the fuel to compensate.

one thing you could do while you have the jspec uninstalled is take teh turbo off and port the wastegate. this will cut down on the boost once the mods are on and hopefully eliminate most boost creep. mine is ported and with DP, MP, and catback i don't see over 8psi. and its definately quicker than a stock T2...

also, you might wanna look into an FD fuel pump. probably cheaper than a walbro and supposedly drops right in. you will prob get worse gas mileage from running richer, but better to have that than an underpowered fuel supply...

you could also get 720 secondaries and an SAFC to tune them...but that would run a few hundred $'s more...

there is a thread in teh archive about correct mods and in what order...maybe that will add some more insight

Reliabilty in a nutshell: you need enough Fuel, oil, and coolant, those are the most important.
