Key cylinder installation

So I did a search on the above and couldn't manage to scare up a detailed enough how-to on what I need to do.

I have a 90 t2 which I bought with no driver's side lock cylinder in the door. I finally got around to buying another cylinder and and went to install it with my trusty mazda shop manual, only to discover that I couldn't find ANY description of how to replace a lock cylinder. So I went to try and do it myself. I got the inside door panel off easily enough, and I can fit the lock cylinder into place from the inside... but I can't see what holds the cylinder in place. I'm also unsure of how to hook up the bar which runs from the lock cylinder to... ??? I'm trying to do this without removing my window, but I'm not sure it's easy to do. Anybody know of a decent write up on how to do this? or can provide a detailed explanation of how it's supposed to hook up? Or better yet, the #@$%ing page number in the shop manual? lol, I would have thought something like this would be in there, but I looked forever...

I have a factory alarm system, automatic locks, and a power window, if this affects anything. Thanks guys!

I do not see it in the manual either.Anyway the lock cylinder is held in place with a spring clip(which does not appear to be sold separately)and there is a rod from the door latch which fits in the "bar" and is held by a plastic clip(part noH001-58-315).
Anyway if you pull the passenger side trim off you can see how it fits.

yeah, I did just that just got back inside from doing it too... I discovered that my little plastic pieces that fit on the ends of the rod are missing, so it's off to the junkyard to grab some(I hope). Hehe, I also have to get another nut to replace the one I dropped inside my door and I cannot find for the life of me! So that's one problem down, but I still can't figure out how that little clip is supposed to hold the cylinder in place! It's completely hidden in my passenger door, and I really don't want to take THAT apart and have TWO non working door handles(getting into the car through the hatch glass is a contortionist's act). Anyone know how this little clip is supposed to hold the cylinder in place?

slides on like a C clip over the cyl

Did you replace the key cyl or just use a spare passengers side key cyl?

It's a brand spanking new driver's side cylinder from Mazda. So umm.... What's a C clip? Maybe I should ask "Does the clip rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise over the cylinder? I'm hoping that I can find one still intact at the junkyard and then tear it apart to find out how it works, but I won't know until thurs. Ah well...

The clip holds the cylinder into the door handle assy. It does not rotate or slide, it is made from spring steel and sections of it are located so they mesh with the cylinder assy.

It's tricky to describe, you would probably find it a lot easier to just take the door handle assy out, it just takes 2 10mm nuts, a couple of electical connections and a couple of control rods a few minutes and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!

BTW, you don't need to take the window out...I've done mine a couple of times, piece of cake!

really? without removing the window? How'd you unscrew the control rod? just disconnected the bottom of it from whatever level it was attached to? I'd love to do it, but I didn't think I'd be able to get the darned control rod unscrewed!

I'm coming to the idea that my door innards may be lacking key components, and that's what I can't figure this out. I already discovered that I'm missing plastic pieces for my lock control rod, and now I'm thinking I may be missing or have a broken clip, the thing that I "thought" was the clip is a little metal tab that stick out an inch and is extremely malliable.

If it's not too much trouble, could you give me a little 1-2-3 step guide on how to remove my door handle? The FSM is woefully inadequate here

a couple of tips

Before beginning, note the position of the control rods, elctrical connections and their relative positions to the window track, other rods and clips. To avoid interferance between each rod and the wires they all have to go back exactly where they came from!

Assuming that you are referring to the largest control rod that is connected to the door handle closest to the rear edge of the door that activates the door latch mechanism...

This actually does not have to be unscrewed, the clip can be opened to allow the rod to come out, the white plastic clip has a center section that will pry open with a blade screwdriver and allow the rod to be pulled away. It opens from the front to the back when viewed from the inside of the door.

The lock control rod is even easier, it snaps into place and can be opened by gently pushing the plastic away from the rod. The rod can then be pulled out of the lock lever.

Next, 2 electrical connectors, if your drivers door has an illuminated lock, the electrical connection need to disconnected, also the connector for the switches that work with the factory alarm.

Finally 2 - 10mm nuts that hold the handle to the door which are accesible through holes in the inner metal door skin.

If you need more detail, let me know...
