Redline!

What is redline on the various years models??

86-88 N/A

86-88 TII

89-91 N/A

89-91 Turbo

I have seen alot of speedometers and cant make sense of it at this point. From what I gather 86 -88 NA & TII redlines at 7 K...89-91 NA 8k & 89-91 turbo 7K??

i read somewhere that rotaries redline at 16000 RPMs, i'm guessing the limits given to us are for our daily driving and what not. but i have seen a video on the forum of a FC and its dash with up to 16000rpms on the tachometer, but they only showed the guy shifting athe guy was shifting at 14000rpms and the gas gauge dropped super fast. i'm guessing it also saves us gas.

All FCs redline at 7k, except S5 NAs which redline at 8k.

I saw a Knight Sports gauge cluster, had boost gauge, 8K redline and 260 kmh..im guessing they just swaped the S5 NA speedo into a S5 turbo cluster, then added thier own kmh gauge which does not match the oem amber glow...thats what it looks like. Looks like im gonna stick with my S4 TII guage cluster.

This is the type of misinformation that needs to be eliminated from the forum!

Idk. It says it's a 91. It was this one -> http://southbend.craigslist.org/cto/1101963154.html

I went and drove it to compare it to my 88. To see if it felt better or not. I noticed it had 7.5k red and thought it was just a S5 feature.

I may be mistaken but to the best of my knowledge that's what it was.

Edit: I just sent him a text. I don't want to appear as a liar. Hopefully he replies and he can send me a pic of the dash if he still has the car.

That car should have a 8K redline..the 92's were turbo and vert only.

Hm. I know this wasn't a turbo. His hood scoop is a cheap carbon fiber one with rivets. I hate to put my foot in my mouth. But I'm almost positive it redlined at 7.5k.

He won't respond to my text. I know he's a 17 y.o. kid who's in high school. It's 10:30pm here, so he might be sleeping. lol

He just called me. He said it redlines at 8k. I could've swore it was 7.5k. He said he will double check it, but he thinks it's 8k.

Sorry guys for the mis info.

It should also be pointed out that stock ports, stock NA manifolds & stock turbos won't let you make any real power beyond redline anyway, so it's really not important.

well, its not my saying. i'm just saying i read it somewhere. i just cant recall... that's why when jerk offs try to kill a rotary by redlining. it doesnt die like a conventional piston engine and blows up in minutes.

i'll try to find this info if i can...

IMO a stock 13b is a stock 13b. its amazing one year will be at 7k redline. and another year is 8k. Internal parts are pretty much the same. Unless you compair turbo and non turbo.
I dont beleive in red line. i think its Just there to look at and go "LOOK i hit redline.." wow look at me

actually their are differences between the s4 and s5 na engines, the s5 rotors are lighter and have a higher compression ratio thus making them able to spin at a higher rpm with less rotating mass. im not to sure about the turbo however. but fact of the matter is there are differences between internals.
