Question Recording method for open header??

Hey guys I remember back in the day I took off my exhaust to do some mods(all comp. mounts) and I ran the car for a few minutes with only a header. I recorded several reving sesions and just idle. But always it was distorted or just completly off the scale of the shitty recorder. Anyways I want to know if there is any good way to record this godly sound. I want to be able to remember that sound wave like its happening but from a recording. I just love that noise and all the looks around the block.

This is for an 89 GTU w/rebuilt engine porting situation unknown but probably stock.

yeah thats one point of doing it. I had it before but its not really representative of the actual sound.

I did it once for the hell of it, and it sounded like the voice of God. No amatuer recorder can measure it, unless youre from a great distance.

edit: There also is a clip floating around of open headers. Video with audio I believe.

I have a large SP n/a with a racing beat header and full exhaust... like 4 months ago, i was backing up in a parking lot, and there was an unpainted speed bump (huge) there and it caught my presilencer and pushed my whole exhaust forwards and bent my RB header in half nearly... so i had to take a torch to the header so i could atleast move the car... it is ungodfully loud... two 12" pipes from the engine... i wish i wouldve taken a vid...

santiago, the only thing i could think of is to take the sound clip from a little further away.. i think people will still get the point of how loud n/a rotaries with no exhaust are.

Just move the recorder further away. About 50 feet away should be able to record it clearly.

what did you use to record it before? I would go with some sort of dynamic mic with a -20db pad. your going to either need a serious pad or a mic that can handle high SPL. probably like an akg kick drum mic would do the trick, i would go with an electro voice broadcast mic though personally. my guess is that you don't have access to any of this stuff though. If you ever find yourself in boston, I'll sort you out. never recorded a car before. heh heh.

Hey
do you guys think it is dangerous to drive around with just the headers?

I have to get my friends Rex to a muffler shop, and for a couple reasons it needs to be with the ehaders only. His only other option is to pay and have it towed...but he's broke.

So, b/c the rotaries run so rich, will he be indagner of having a flame shoot out and engulf his car in flames??

I drove around with the presilencers once. I don't think there was any HIGH risk. Just don't drive around going into the upper rpms just keep it calm driving and she shoudl be ok.
