Recommendations for type of exhaust system
My 1987 RX-7 SE had a few holes in its mufflers. It recently failed safety inspection due to this. There are a couple on the mufflers themselves and a few at the tailpipe and connection to the y-pipe. So that means I need two new mufflers and y-pipe. I have seen a few out there and wondered if anyone had a good experience with a certain type. Any and all recommendations will be appreciated. I did see a Racing Beat made exhaust at mazdatrix.com and wondered if that was a good choice so..... Thanks.

The racing exhaust from Mazdatrix is a good exhaust. A buddy of mine gave it lots of praise. However for the price it costs I could fabricate my own 3' exhaust from 304 stainless. And thats from the downpipe back. It also helps if you have friends that work in a shop with access to a welder and a mandrel bender.

I have the pacesetter cat-back. Sounds very nice and deep. Also price is pretty good, about $275 I believe. Its not all stainless though, all powdercoated black w/stainless tips. Also, there all duel tips on each side, kind of a unique look I think. I like it , but you might wanna see it first just to see if you like the quad tips. Ill post some pics of mine if youd like.

apex N1 dual, cat back system. bonez hi flow catalytic converter. AWESOME set up. they look good too. and they are tuneable. you can stick a baffle in the end if a cop says your too loud.
check out rx7.com its Rotary Performance. they have a good exhaust section. check it out.

i have a mazdatrix exhaust that i need to get rid off. no rust great shape... paint and chrome are still very good.. deep throaty sound and not too loud at cruisng speeds 65-80. louder than stock yes... but not by much. full catback. y-pipe, with the two pipes and mufflers. the mufflers are a straight through design. $300. it netted me a 14 sec 1/4 so i guess you could say that it flows well. e- mail me @ fastrotaries@aol.com for more info or pics.. will be on the parts trader soon.

I installed the RB polished stainless catback on my 89 convertible a couple of weeks ago and love it. It is not cheap, and no one will ever see the polished Y-pipe (except for a mechanic), but it is nicely made. At certain throttle levels, it is a bit more throaty than the stock system, but at cruise and at idle, the sound levels are the same as stock, as far as I can tell. That was exactly what I wanted.
So, if you like a near-stock sounding exhaust, that looks awesome, and have some extra money lying around, then I highly recommend the racing beat system.
