Ok, The search function gives great articles on street porting and what they do, and I'm almost done reading up and researching on the path of mods I want to do.

However I have one question that ties it all together.

Let me know if this is Correct.

Rebuilding and streetporting the engine will be the first steps, Opening up the intake ports and removing the S4 exhaust diffusers would be second. Wiring in some pineapple sleeves to match. Putting on a Racing beat header to a Racing beat presilencer to an Apex'i N1 single cat-back would be next. Slapping on some BPU's as well with a Bonez intake and a Cranecams Hi-6 or MSD ignition box. Lastly doing the TB mod and then Tuning it all out with an Apex'i SAFC.

That's what I plan for first, from here going into NOS, if scathcart get's his kit in gear .

BTW car is an 1988 GTU w/144k and a custom blown waterseal. N/A of course

Nice list, but I have some concerns about the order:

Porting won't do anything unless the exhaust is done too. Either it should all be done at once, or start with a free flowing exhaust. All the porting in the world won't help you if the exhaust gasses cant get out of the tail-pipe easily.

My next comment is one that has been debated time and again: wiring 5th and 6th ports open. Personally, I've tried both, and prefer them to function as normal. You loose a lot of low-end when you wire them open. If that's not a problem to you, just remove the sleeves and actuators altogether. If it is a problem, just put the pinapple sleeves in, and make sure they work like they are supposed to.

Good luck with the rebuild and mods!

BTW: I just noticed you're from Owings Mills - do you ever see the "Motorweek" guys around testing cars etc?

hehe, no I've not seen them running around, not really sure where their at around here anyway.

Btw, I do intend on the rebuild/sp and exhaust happening at the same time.

Almost forgot... This was part of the question, Should I be able to tune out the losses with the Apex'i SAFC? run more fuel in the mixture at a low rpm to keep it from running lean by having the intake ports wide open from a port and sleeves?

If you're willing to go thru all that, then you've got a good idea what you need to do. Personally, I wouldn't port a motor until I needed to (i.e. it needs a rebuild)..

Start with:

Free flow exhaust/Header
Intake modifications (89 AFM (requires wire splicing)
Timing, plugs/wires
89 Intake manifolds, smoothed out (I wonder if overporting kills intake velocity, I'd just get smooth)
5/6 port actuation fix/wire open (I'll leave that to be debated, I don't care, mine's wired open.. I don't spend any time <4K RPM anyway)
VDI actuation fix/wire open (if using 88 wiring, you'll have to figure out a way to actuate the VDI)
TB Mod, smog removal
Radiator, water pump, radiator hoses, oil cooler line replacement, heater line replacement
Pulleys (if you don't mind that the alternator isn't going to be putting out great output)
AC/PS removal

That's how I'd approach it..

If you wnat to add all those other fancy things, do that after you get a good baseline to start with.

How much NOS? Consider going with a better CDI box, and something on the trailings, so you can run a bigger shot and run retard.

Sorry this took so long, I'm going to try for a 125 shot of NOS. I read about your kit scathcart and it sounds really good. I'd like to actually be shown how to set it up and then do it myself. I'm open for learning.

look at my sig..

by the way if you remove the 5/6 port sleeve your motor will flow as much as a large street port
