Recall?

Shouldn't they have had a recal for the pulsation dampaner, since they are such a prone item to leaking? I'm paranoid about mine blowing fuel all over my exhaust housing now. The only recal ive heard of on the RX-7's is the retractable seatbelts...

On a 17 year old car? Not likely.

Well the problem with this is that most fuel pulse dampaners last 100k miles before they begin leaking. Yeah some people have had bad luck, but from what I have been reading around here.... Most have lasted around 100k. So them to really recall that sort of thing, yeah its leaking gas in a very bad area, but they would be replacing alot of them...

So, thats most likely a good reason why they don't do it.. If you are paranoid then I would change it.. Its not something quick to change though. Have to pull alot of items out of the way to get to it. Its also a good time to replace all the vac lines/ fuel lines while your down under the upper intake manafold..

Edit: Exactly as Icemark said, its considered a maintance item.

There is not a recall on the Pulsation Dampener for the FC.

The national traffic/highway safety has investigated the 13B powered FB and FC and found that the issue is a maintenance issue, not a design failure.

+ that same S4 PD is used on mid eighties Toyota and Honda products as well.

yeah i can agree with that but again most parts arent in danger of causing a massive fuel fire

I have read on a different thread someone finding a "performance" fuel dampaner... something of the rather... However someone else mentioned it would not fit the lines without modifications anyways... Then it becomes more trouble then its worth...

Don't be cheap with this part. It lasted 100,000 miles, give your car a break and just buy the 150 dollar item. Otherwise your car will go up in flames, and no one wants that. If you HAVE to drive the car and smell a gas leak definately go out and buy a 10 dollar fire extinguisher. (Its a good idea to put one in your bin anyways) You never know when you could need it...

Some nice looking girls car may go up in flames and you could be her savior ?? (Note: Replace girls with guys if your female or feel the need. You know what I mean.) Or your car could be a ball of fire when you are still ahead of some other guy on a twisty mountain road...

I made an adapter about 2 years ago, that used a GM V8 PD and bolted onto a S4 fuel rail, but do to extremely poor sales, dropped it.

Now there is some renewed interest again, and promises of people buying, I am looking into building it again.

The adapter was $60, and used a GM racing PD that was $35. While this did put it in the range of a new Denso PD, the nice thing was that if the PD ever leaked again, or there were concerns on PD life, that the PD could be switched in 15 minutes on a Non turbo, and with a $35 replacement part.

So since there is renewed intrest, I am also looking into a racing version that is rebuildable, and seeing if the cost would be lower.

I will probably start a thread next week to gauge actual buying intrest.
