to rebuild or to reman, that is the question

Alright I have an s4 N/A engine with 164k miles on it. The reason I'm rebuilding is because it burns more oil that is should, and also blows coolant into the overflow and floods after each start. I've pulled it and taken it down to short block. I've yet to take it completely apart yet cuz if I decide to get a reman I'll need a core. The reman I'm looking at is from speedmachineperformance.com. Ne1 use them before? Anyway what I want to know would it be better for me to rebuild what I have and hope the irons and housing are in good condition? Or would it be better off to buy a reman from speedmachineperformance and just spend triple the money and get something brand new?

Also, If I get a reman I would like to get an s5 engine and do a swap since they produce more hp and are only like $100 more or something like that.

Rebuild. You've already done all the hard parts. The opening of the motor and checking all the tolerances is easy. Way too easy to spend that kind of money to get around it. Just buy the RA video Look at the archives at a thread called "13b rebuild kit" Do exactly what dDub did and you'll be fine.

i agree with jhammons, plus if you rebuild you can PORT! also, im pretty sure that switching to s5 is damn near impossible unless you have a standalone, but someone more intelligent will most likely come in and elaborate on that.

That's true that I would be able to port if I rebuild. Except I've never ported an engine before, I've never even rebuilt an engine before. I've been talking to jhammons in PMs. I'm pretty sure I'll save myself money and do the rebuild myself. It would also be a great learning experience . I would like the higher compression of the s5 engine, but if I just swap out the s4 rotors with s5's I'll get the higher compression aka hp. How will this effect the rest of my s4 setup?
