Rebuild question, liquid gasket

Hey guys so to put it short I allotted myself 5 hours to try and get my short block assembled this afternoon, but due to a few set backs I was only able to get the intermediate iron on. Unfortunately this is where I had to stop due to already being late for my night job.

My question regards the liquid gasket that is put on the lower legs of the housings. Is the a time window in which everything has to be tightened down for the gasket to be good? I ask because I will be unable to finish up until tomorrow. What I need to know is if I will need to disassemble it and apply new liquid gasket before I complete my short block.

Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I just want to make sure I know before I proceed tomorrow.

Mate, liquid sealant/gas-kit needs to be applied fresh before you assemble your engine. You simply can't let it dry or disassemble your engine and put it back together without applying a fresh layer of sealant/liquid gasket.

Cheers

Thanks, that's what I was thinking but the lazy part of my brain wanted to believe I could just start off from the same spot tomorrow.

Guess I will be pulling it back apart and re applying tomorrow. At least the rotors are assembled already. Once again, thanks.

I actually "paused" during my rebuild due to.. misplacing some things
Anyway, what I had done when I realized I was not going to finish was layer the remaining housing and plate on top, and put in some tension bolts in place. I tightened them down just enough to keep things together firmly. I came back the next day and finished off the engine. 4 years later (not too many miles though) engine is running and there are no issues.

Good to go!

Ah that would have been a great idea if I had thought of it before I had to run to work. That's definitely good to know for next time. Gotta love doing your first rebuild. It seems to be taking forever ha ha

Ha ha be ready for hard work a maybe some headache. I was lucky to have an engine with 87000 miles and just a blown coolant seal. I just got the short block assembled. I still have to set the endplay and the other final touches. I can't wait to fire it up. I haven't ever driven my seven more than five minutes. So I can wait!
