MD rebuild question

hey everyone im currently in the process of rebuilding my s4 turbo 2 motor. currently the engine smokes after coming up to operating temp, with that said, it feels powerful and starts easily when cold or hot. so im just wondering is it the oil conrol seals that i must replace? Thanx in advance......

What color is the smoke? White and you have lost a coolant seal and are burning coolant. Grey and you are burning oil and have lost the oil control ring o-rings or you have a stuck side or corner seal. If you have a bad apex seal it wouldn't necessarily smoke but it would idle like crap and shake like a paint mixer in the engine bay. Rebuild kits from Atkins or Rotary aviation are a fair bargain.
FWIW,

what does any of that have to do with smoking?

Make sure you don't have bad turbo oil seals causing it to smoke.

If I recall correctly, a member recently had the same problem, and the turbo oil seals were the culprit...so you would probably want to check there first. And it's only coolant you're burning if the smoke smells sweet & burnt...unless of course you're running pure water...
