Rear window Defoger Tab broken, how to fix?

So when i was trying to reconect the pass side connecter for the rear window defoger (in my vert) I broke off the tab that connects to the window. I can't tell if it is solder that holds it on. Or something else.

So how do I re attach it?

I did the same thing on my hatch glass, and is also looking for a solution to re-attach the tab.

I was thinking about soldering the tab back on but thought it would crack the glass or something.

this happens to the 1st gens, and yeah you solder it back on. i'm not sure, but i'd think you want to be quick so you don't put a ton of heat into the glass...

if its needed the 1st gen actually has a part number for the tab itself

I'll give a try soon, I have the top off right now so it should be like 7 times easier to work on.

It is far easier to solder it back on if you remove the glass and lay it upside down to work on. Solder flows down much better than it flows up.

Just got to it yesterday. I finally got the hose kit for the drains, and just soldered it back in place, poorly. I cant solder for ****. I checked continuity and it shows about the same resistance (sp?) as my other car.

So how do i check to see if it is defrosting? Its in the 70s here (crappy summer for us) and I cant figure out how to "frost" or "fog" the window. Maybe i'll but a bucket of ice in there, hmmmm.

Next any kind of humidity, run the AC for about 30 minutes, then turn it off. Should develop a nice interior fog that will allow you to check if it's working.

The primary thing about soldering, you need a good hot iron. If you laid the glass upside down and waited until the iron was really hot, and melted on a little flux to insure clean surface, you should have a decent solder joint.

Didn't even think about flux (DOH), but yes it was upside down. and as far as the A/C goes. It doesn't work. I've had three verts and not one of them had working A/C. And since
A: its a vert
B:its seattle (we've had a high of 80* this year)

I never seem to have gotten the damn thing fixed.
gonna go try ice right now.
