IL Rear stationary gear removal

Hello everyone,

I was replacing my clutch, pilot bearing, front and rear trans seal, along with the rear stationary gear O-ring. I unbolted the 6 bolts that the rear stationary gear housing has. I tried for about 1.5 hours trying to remove it and it would not budge. The flywheel nut and pilot bearing didn't give me this much trouble!!!!

I searched around and only found people having trouble installing the rear gear housing, not removing it.

Is there any specific way to remove the rear stationary gear housing? In the FSM it doesn't really show much, in fact it looks like they have you remove the rear housing!?! I am not going to remove the rear housing because that gets into the rotors and their seals.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks in advance.

first, be sure you remove the flywheel key or you may damage the stat gear bearing.

next get a claw foot nail remover with an "L" on the end and pry on that sucker in whatever location you can get the claw under the gear. it will come off suddenly, just like the flywheel.

and finally, do NOT rotate the engine with the gear removed.

How would I know if the stat gear bearing is bad? I didn't remove the key and tried using a pry bar. I didn't try that hard because it didn't seem to budge. So I was afraid of damaging something. I don't think the bearing is bad. Like I said I didn't try for long.

I'll give the claw foot nail remover a shot.

Thanks!!!!!

it would only be a problem if it came loose and got jammed up on the flywheel key, if it damaged the bearing it would have a notch pressed into it and be tight against the e-shaft(dragging).

Thanks again!!

I removed the key and used a claw foot nail remover to pry off the rear housing. It took a little bit of pressure, but it finally came off. I didn't move the shaft after removal and installation was a breeze.

Thanks again rotaryevolution
