Question Rear Stationary Gear O-ring

Previously,I replaced my rear main seal a few months ago to try and stop my oil leak. After I did, it still leaked and I was told that it is probably the rear stationary gear o-ring. (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ry+gear+o-ring)

I pulled out the rear stationary gear yesterday to replace the o-ring. My question is, where does the o-ring go? Because when I pulled it out, there is one groove that I can see where it goes, but there is a seal in it but it's flat and does not look like the o-ring I have to replace it. Is that the o-ring or is that something else? I tried searching but I didn't find and pictuires or anything. So I'm going to pop in my Atkins dvd to see if they show it. Any advice is appreciated! Oh and what part(s) should I throw some RTV on to help seal it? Like the front or rear of the rear stationary gear and rear main?

Thanks,
Jordan

Yes, that is the O-ring.

You should just replace it and put the gear back in the block, no RTV or anything nesessary.

Really? I wonder why it looks different than the seal that I got from Mazdatrix to replace it. I mean, the o ring in there now is wider and flat surfaced, whereas the one I have to replace is rounded and more thin.

All the old ones look like that when they come out. They just get that way over time.

Okay... so to remove the plastic o-ring, should I just cut it out because it's in there pretty tight. It doesn't seem like the new o-ring will fit. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong as I've never done this before. But I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Just so you know, it is not plastic. It is a rubber o-ring that after 15+ years has dried out and formed to the "flat sided" shape you see now. FYI, most all the o-rings will be like that if you ever replace any of them.
