Rear "shock tower" speaker size
#8
The doors can take a 6.5" speaker I think I am going to roll with Alpine sps 600's in the doors, and maybe in the back also with an Alpine MRV-F345 amp 4x75w RMS powering those speakers. And I have a JL audio 10w1-4 10" sub with another Alpine, this one is a MRP-t130 bridged it puts out about 130w RMS. Since I am going for clean and clear and not boom and rattle, it should give me some nice sound for the inside of the car. I don't want anyone else to know what I have especially since I suffer from the dreaded door lock not stopping anyone from getting in syndrome.
I planned originally to put 8" subs in the shock towers but I can't see an 8" sub in those rear shock towers since the hole is like 7.125" when I measured it, and that simply is not enough cubic feet for a good bass reflex on any kind of good sub. So custom sub box with mounting for both of the amps will have to work for me. I am not looking forward to the installation and running all new speaker wire, but oh well at least I have 6 channel preouts so it will all sound clean when I am done.
My head unit is a Clarion DXZ385USB with sub control and 2v preout, wish it had more but for $99 I am not going to complain.

I dont think I have a thread on it, but if you want to know how ive gotten to 20+ you are more than welcome to shoot me a PM.
My S4 had 6.5" adapter plates stock. The only explanation to this is that I had a SE (base model) that did not have the optional upgraded stereo system where all the speakers had there very own mini amps. Unfortunately I no longer have these plates in my car as i no longer have a stereo system.
I was also able to fit 6.5" clarion speakers inside my doors, and they just barely clear the window glass guts. Though my FC is a frankencar that has wierd body stamping for an early 88 car.

IMO, No matter what speaker i put in that rear shock tower it always sounded like crap. I even used a new amp.. The stock amp in both shock towers are so old. i dont think they push 3 watts. And the shock tower never made a good speaker box.
i made a new box

Smoke moar
I think new speakers in the rear commonly hit the grill.
Put 2 way (tweeter) speakers so the speaker cant hit when it has bass, atleast the 6.25" or 6.5" JBLs I had always started sounding like their blown whenever the cover was on.
Basically just cut the original adapter so your speakers fit and drill holes, works perfect if you can mount the speaker on the bottom and put spacers so its lower if you think it may hit...
