Rear Gear Question

Hey,

I have a 3.909 LSD Diff on my 87 5speed

I'm a fan of tall gearing with Boost but will have to give up my N/A tranny for a TII 1 after I turbo this motor. I'm looking for anyone that has had the Differentials appart and knows if it's possible to either swap the pinion gear of a turbo into an N/A housing or the Ring gear of an N/A with the LSD diff into a TII housing

Frank

if your car was always an auto it should have the same gear ratio as a turbo diff., 4.10.

No, that would be wrong. Auto tranny coupes came with a 3.9 rear end gearing.

No, they are not interchangeable. The Turbo uses a 8" diff and gear set, and the non turbo uses a 7" diff and gear set.

Replace the whole rear end if you want turbo or manual tranny gearing.

my bad, i thought they were the same. though 3.90 to 4.10 is not much, doesn't anyone make gear sets for these axles? i haven't checked yet for lower gear ratios but i would be willing to bet you could find a good manufacture set of gears for it.

wow i guess you are right, they make plenty of short gear ratios for track but none for speed.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/g6.htm

i will have to check with some local pinion manufacturers to see if they know of any sets with a lower gear ratio...
