What does this mean?

Hi Gang,
I'm troubleshooting idle/fuel economy problems on my '87 TII. I have the UIM and TB off and am testing/measuring.
I have just finished the test for the Water Thermo Valve and it fails. Anybody know how it would affect the engine with thing on the fritz?

I have another one from an organ-donor car but it won't open at 140 degrees either. So, it's off to the dealer for a replacement I guess.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

If it's rigged up like the NA's, it controls the vac to the secondary throttle primary plates, or whatever the heck you call them. The first set of them....Seems you would notice definite lack of power issues if those bad boys stayed closed all of the time, though. I removed mine a while ago, along with all of the vac/valve controls. Just don't rag on her until she warms up if you're planning on doing this...

Wayne,
Thanks for the input. I'm trying to stay stock, so removal isn't in the plan. Do you think it may be involved in my idle problems - won't idle below 1500, most of the time. Some time it settles down to 800 and runs smooth as peanutbutter.
